    OBE

Have you ever had a out of body experience? How did it make you feel, were you scared or relaxed?

I remember my first Astral projection when I was only five years old. It felt just normal to me so it wasnt scary.

Everyone astral travels wether they remember it or not. If you can remember ever having the feeling of suddenly being woken up from your sleep with a shock, with the feeling that you have just fallen through or out of your bed, but in fact you have not, then you have most probably had an O.B.E. and experience with the spirit returning to quickly. This happens when the spirit comes rushing back within the mortal body at to fast a rate and what happens is that it comes back with a thud and as the spirit comes slamming back in and is stopped by the material being, but the feeling is one where we feel as though we have suddenly fallen and it is the spirit landing with a thud and almost going out the other side of our body that gives us this experience, it has a startling effect on us and usually immediately wakes us up with quite a shock. I do this evcen just sititng on the lounge watching television.

We all channel too we just might not be consciously aware of it. I do it through writing and poetry. I have been doing Automatic writing for a long time now. It can be learnt through patience and effort.

I am Reiki Healer as well, have completed Reiki I and Reiki II and am looking forward to using it when I become a Doula.

I reckon we are most happiest when we find or little niches in life!!

You can learn to have OBE if you wanted too?

I have had the feelings that you talk of, but have just put them down to strange dreams where my mind has got a bit carried away. My MIL who doesn't like to talk of ghosts, spirits and such things addmits to having these experiences.

'Flying' in your sleep may be a paralysis

    By Roger Highfield, Science Editor
    Last Updated: 12:01am GMT 05/03/2007

People who have out-of-body experiences, such as flying along a tunnel towards a heavenly light, are more likely to suffer a strange effect called sleep paralysis, according to a survey that adds to mounting evidence for a biological explanation for the experience.

During sleep paralysis, people experience a kind of breakdown between states of consciousness which takes place on the fringe of sleep, either when falling asleep or waking. Because the brain turns off the body's ability to move during dreaming, muscles can lose their tone, or tension, causing paralysis.

The details of sleep paralysis vary from person to person. Some hear vague sounds, indistinct voices and demonic gibberish. Others see hallucinations of humans, animals and supernatural creatures. There is a striking inability to move or to speak, or a weight on the chest.

Also common are feelings of rising off the bed or flying. In addition, people report out-of-body experiences, sometimes accompanied by "autoscopy" when they look down on themselves. Not surprisingly, these moments are accompanied by fear.

Throughout history, there have also been accounts of people having visions on the brink of death - what are now called "near-death experiences".

Today, the two odd effects are linked by a study that backs the idea that the near-death experience is a biological experience, rather than anything to do with a spiritual dimension, a glimpse of heaven or the existence of the soul.

People who have had near-death experiences are also likely to have suffered sleep paralysis, according to the survey published by a team in Neurology, the journal of the American Academy of Neurology, by Prof Kevin Nelson, from the University of Kentucky, Lexington.

In a survey of 55 people who had a "near-death experience" - defined as a time during a life-threatening episode when a person experienced a variety of feelings, including unusual alertness, seeing an intense light, and a feeling of peace - he found three quarters had an out-of-body experience and half of them had also felt they had left their body during the transition between wakefulness and sleep.

"We found that 96 per cent (24 of 25) of near-death subjects having sleep paralysis also had an out-of-body experience either during sleep transition or near-death," said Prof Nelson.

In a control group of 55 people, three reported an out-of-body experience. Two of them also suffered sleep paralysis. Prof Nelson says this suggests the same brain circuitry plays a role.

The sleep paralysis linked with out-of-body experiences was thought rare, but may strike between 40 per cent and 60 per cent of people at least once.

They report sensations of floating, flying, falling or leaving one's body. It ranges from relatively tranquil floating experiences to horrible feelings of falling or rising at high speed.

I am of two minds as usual but I thought I would post this article anyhow. I've had a few OBEs but am more likely to attribute it to my brain playing tricks as I was overtired and stressed at the time. The most memorable one was when i was studying for my HSC in year 12 just before the first exam. It kinda helped actually because i was so perplexed by the experience that i was kinda distracted from being nervous! LOL Oh and I did quite well in my first exam (English) but not so good in the rest probably because i returned to stressing about it..

    Hi Soul,

I have had a couple of experiences that are post worthy... the first was when i went to xpartners fathers home - he was a spiritual healer that used digiridoos (sp), he was not aborginal but learned from them, that were tuned to star signes... he played 3 in total, mum, dads and mine... through the session i drifted away and although i dont remember where i went came back tp earth with a thud... could have swore at one point that i was floating above in the same position though so was looking up not down at myself.
The second was when i was doing my Reiki I... during the initiation, i went floating around mountains, lakes and sea's... afterwards i was telling of my experience and told her that when she placed the crystals on my shoulders i felt them and that was what bought me back - she told me that there was nothing that she put on me or my shoulders - i could sworn that she did, i felt the weight and the coolness on both my shoulders, but more on one than the other (cant remember which).

I am also jolting back to my body more frequently now that i am pg - every time it ends in the same, slipping on something and jolting back...

I used to always, ever since being a young kid anyway, have that feeling just as you were falling asleep, that I was falling, then would wake up witha start and a shudder, since being older have researched it quite a bit, is called a myoclonic jerk reflex, where your body thinks its dying not sleeping so sends an electric impulse, sorta like a jumpstart.....interesting I thought.
I have had quite a few of these experiences and for a while there was playing around with it, trying to do it intentionally, I have never left my bedroom in those circumstances, I have just been able to recognise that I am asleep, my eyes are closed, but I can see everything perfectly, then sit up, I always make the mistake of turning around and looking at myself asleep, that always brings me right back with a bang.
The most perplexing experience was a few years ago, I wasnt asleep, I had closed my eyes, when all of a sudden it was like someone turned the light on in my room iykwim, so I opened my eyes and to my surprise I was standing beneath a lamp which was shining in my face, in the back of a crowded cafe, the people werent speaking english, not sure what language, I didnt take much notice because as I looked around I had that feeling of being watched, I looked up and there was a table with a young man sitting at it facing me, with someone else with him with their back to me, he was raising his cup to his lips but had stopped halfway and was open mouthed gaping at me, i Panicked and looked down and realised I was naked! I closed my eyes and willed myself back in my bedroom, then told my partner all about it, I can never get over the expression on that guys face though, still freaks me out now.

I always feel that feeling just when I drop off to sleep, I very often wake with a startle, probably every second night or so. I always wondered why. I just thought it was my body relaxing or something. My DH thinks its hilarious to see me do it!

I often I have that feeling when I'm going to sleep. It's awful, and often gives me a fright, I really feel like I have fallen. I get that feeling in my stomach, you know, like when you're on a rollercoaster or something?

BlackDiamond, you are just like my hubbie, he could have said all that himself!

I think the more we read about such things the less unknown it seems/feels does that make sense? Sometimes we might "Reject" such experiences because its out of our "Real Zone" , but really its not, its just our natural birth right to have such experiences, but society sings a different tune, so we learn not to acept anything out of the boring norm.

Just once if you embrace such a experience, you might be mostly surprised how it makes you feel and yearn for more information on the hows, why and who's!

    Hi Soul
I am quite aware of it, but I believe I have been denying myself of it. I would love to chat to someone about it, but I think they may be freaked out big time, and even freak me out even more!!!

Soul, I've had a few of the OBE like what you described but I just wanted to write that I have also done automatic writing, as a subconscious self-exploration though, and I am guessing you probably focus more on external channeling? There are days when I sit down to write, and find myself sitting an hour or two later with something written and not even realise that I wrote it IYKWIM... it was very disconcerting at first (as I wasn't prompted or taught, but was something that just happened) but now its like opening a window into a place in my mind I never knew existed.

I am thinking of seeking out someone who can explain a little about channeling, though to be honest I would probably freak out A LOT... I see myself as pretty open to it, but I know I'd freak out!!!!

Hi Soul, I've had several OBE experiences and i love them! They seem to happen more often when im feeling "in tune" with myself. Stress, tiredness etc seems to block them. I dont talk about it to many people as its difficult when they've never experienced it or believe in it themselves.

LOL black, you would be surprised how many would be right up your ally on such things! Nothing is too "Out" there to me anymore. You sound already opened minded about it all and most likley feel or experiences things way out of the norm. You should talk to someone about it, it would make you feel more normal, to meet others that are gifted just like you. I am always happy to listen and spare any opnions if not wanted, or you can join the thousands of forums on such subjects and just read others stories if you dont want to submit any of your personal things. You could say you were from mars and I would still not bat an eye lid at you!! Get it out hun, you wont feel so freaky if you share, there are so many just like you!

And I soooooooooo understand you on the "Denying" yourself on such. I have been there, but little by little I got my surroundings more aware of it all and especially my hubbie, he went from the most skeptic person I know to someone who will talk about his own experinces and admit to things happening that he cant deny were real and not his imagination. His biggest excitment was doing his first past life regression.

Leash, your channelling alright!!!!!!!!!! It can be a very scary feeling at first, and for some a feeling of time stopping, this happens to me, time seems to stop but after I have finished a channel, two hours has passed! Being a chanel for the right information can be a great thing!
