Suggestion to make a nicer energy in a room

Our dining room has a really bad 'feel' to it at the moment. The cat and dog have decided that this is an excellent place to throw up. The cat also decided that this was an excellent place to bring in a bird - DH rescued the bird from his mouth but it later died from shock.

We don't use the area much as the table annoys me (it was broken in the move, we fixed it but it doesn't work properly). We have had people over for dinner but it is fairly squashed.

Any suggestions on how to fix the energy of the room. I was thinking of using a smudge stick and meditating to clear the energy - but any longer term suggestions would be good.

The room is part of a combined lounge dining area, and it is in the smaller part of the L.

I would start by brightening up the room are there any windows? Can you place some mirrors on the wall to reflect some light around? I would definitely go the smudge stick, even some frankincense on charcoal if you have it, great for cleansing and protection.

Maybe read up on some feng shui and move around/decorate accordingly?

    Some plant life?
Get rid of the annoying table and get one that fits the room?

    I need some help too

just an overall cleansing of the house to clear the negativity and to start a fresh.

I guess a good tidy up would be a start

    Fresh flowers ... a bright lamp ...

Seeing fresh flowers always brightens my mood.

    Regarding the dining room:

Get rid of the table, buy a smaller round one. Round tables enhance togetherness and goodwill, eliminates hierachies etc. Make sure it's not a glass top. Wood is best... it creates "warmth". A central leg pedastle table instead of 4 legs is also best.

Consult a Feng Shui book. Depending on the location of the room, compass direction (which determines the quality of natural light etc) there will be differing suggestions.

An electric essential oil burner is a good investment. Burning citrus oils, especially mandarin and orange can make a room smell "happy". Cinnamon insense has a similar effect.

If you have a large plain wall without windows or doors consider painting this as a feature wall... plum, cornflour blue, a pale green are nice colours depending on the space/light etc. Dark colours will make it intimate and cosy... light colours make the space appear bigger (sounds what you might need). A large mirror could help as well but it's best placed beside or at right angles to doors/windows rather than opposite them. Often if you place a large mirror opposite a window it creates a silhouette of you as you look into it to see the room... hard to describe but I've seen it many times and it's annoying.

An eye catching light shade placed above the table... I like crystal chandeliers but the modern equivalent also really improves a space. If its directly over a table it can hang low. Other forms of indirect light like wall mounted lamps are great too.

Buy new artwork or a new floor rug. I love large textile (tapestry-like) wall-hangings. These work well near where people gather for meals because they absorb sound making the acoustics of the room nicer.

Get yourself a copy of "Creating sacred space with Feng Shui" by Karen Kingston, and "Sacred Space" by Denise Linn. They both contain detailed instructions on how to conduct detailed space clearing, and then more importantly how to program the space so that it stays healthy and clear.

For a quick fix, I would sweep through the area/vaccuum (making sure doors and windows are open) while visualising the dense, heavy energy leaving the room. Bringing something living like a house plant and bringing in plenty of fresh air and light will also help. A candle in a dish of (clean) crystals will also bring a warm energy into the room (nice for autumn/winter).

Burn incence. I only use one brand as I believe it's the best. Shrinivas Sugandhalaya. The best ones in the range (IMHO) are Natural, Nag Champa & Superhit. The natural and superhit are usually only available in import type shops or markets but the nag champa is available in a lot of $2 type stores (in a blue box).

You could try burning sage in the room to clear the energy, or perhaps look up some crystals that you could put in the room to improve the energy.

    Thanks everyone!

I burnt a sage stick in the room and it seems a lot better in there. I also need to do something long term, so I'll probably do that once we have some spare cash.

The energy must be ok in there as the cat has taken to lounging around on the dining table .

Glad that it's feeling better. Bringing in something alive like a bunch of flowers or even a bowl of fresh fruit will help to vibe up the room a bit more, especially if it's something you replace every few days.

And, don't conclude that because the cat's there, that it means it's clear. Cats are just energy hogs, and it doesn't always matter to them whether it's light, clear energy or heavy, dense energy. (That's why they love sitting on top of tvs, not only is it warm, it's got all that electromagnetic grunge coming out of it) LOL. I first noticed this years ago when doing healings in my home, my cat would always come in and sit at the end of the healing table where all the mucky energy was leaving the person. However if you set up a strong energetic source like a potplant (ever wonder why cats sit on them), crystals or even a symbol drawn on some paper, they will just as happily sit on them too. LOL

Whenever I feel the house getting a bad energy to it (which isn't very often because the minute I feel it I am on top of) I get my smudge stick out and walk around the house a few times. ALSO beads in front of your doorway, you know the one's that hang down and you walk through? They are great at blocking bad energy from coming in. What else... I have a I-Ching mirror above my front door that' helps as well. Best of luck with it all.

    I love this thread!
I have one of those Indian door hangings, but it's over the entrance to the kitchen (facing the lounge and front door) and it has many mirrors on it, between the elephant embroidery.
Beads at the back door are a great idea...except when they're wooden beads and there's a kidlet who likes to catch them in the door, breaking off bead strands and beads go flying everywhere...oh, well, the idea's there!
I burn oils and make up aromatherapy room sprays, as well as using natural cleaning products where possible. I like to think it all contributes to a better energy in this house.
