I would have it taken out asap.
I had my ex MIL try to convince me it was the right thing for me to do back when I was 22. I told her no way. I am so glad I never went through with it.
My DH and I only use condoms. He knows I am not ready to have another baby... like Bon, after we've had bub #4, DH is going to get the snip. Until then, he understands how my body reacts to other contraceptives, so he is more than willing to take charge when it comes to our contraceptives. It is a great feeling being 100% you and nothing artificial messing around with your body & hormones.

I hope you feel much better when you get your Mirena removed. Stand your ground hun... it's your body.

Agh, I'm so frustrated at that bl00dy clinic (on your behalf)! What a load of bollocks trying to make you feel like an idiot
And... bad form on your DH's part Sorry he isn't being more supportive of you.
Do you have another dr or clinic you can visit instead?

I had mine removed after a year and a bit. I didn't have any major complications, but I was experiencing severe PMT. Unfortunately the PMT seems to be even worse on the pill though, so the next step is to see how am I am without chemical contraception. It might be just an age or post-baby thing rahter than the contraception, but I just don't know.

Definatly get it taken out. I am supposed to go get one when my next period starts. Im seriously thinking about canning that idea now after reading this thread & the other one on the lost mirena.
I had the implanon removed after about 10months due to side effects like weight gain, constant bleeding & serious mood swings. I wonder if i would have the same reaction to Mirena?

Amy, the dosage of hormones in the Mirena is much lower, as it's delivered locally. But of course only you can make the decision on what to do. On the plus side, it is very easily removed.

Alright ladies I am booked in for 9.30am and READY TO BE ASSERTIVE, and FIRM.
I have a bad feeling that they will give me the line - Oh, well, you've only had it in 3 months, why not wait and see how it goes?
NO. I am in such a crappy state, I want to be able to smile, and be nice, and look nice, and act nice again. I want to be a happy mummy.

I am going to be firm. AND I WILL NOT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER! And if they try to reshedule it for later in the week, I wil tell them that I will be happy to take it out myself! (Because it costs $10 every time you go down there - not that much, but adds up when you are in, in, in, in... So far it has cost me over $100 to do this)

ANYWAYS! I have decided what we are doing with the K-Rudd $$$ - I am going to give my lovely DH a VASECTOMY VOUCHER!! HAHAHAH!!!! I am pure evil!!

I don't see why the drama about getting it out - if one clinic was giving you trouble, then why didn't you just go to another one, you don't even have to give them a reason - it's none of their business why you don't want it in anymore.

Anyway, I just had one put in on Friday when I had a lap done as a treatment for endo. Not sure how things are going because I am still quite sore from the lap. But if it proved to not agree with me, then I wouldn't hesitate to get it out.

Thankyou ladies for your support - yes it went well. I went in there, and actually saw the doctor this time, instead of the nurse, and she was very supportive. I didn't beat around the bush, I just outlined my feelings and she agreed it was the best thing to do.

Trillian, there is only one place here in town that will do it, because none of the other doctors want that liability. And the nurse at the clinic was not very helpful and a bit rude IMO which made me feel uncomfortable. I am not too good in confrontial situations so I felt a little bit pressured that 'it was nothing, and I should put up with it". I have been in hell these last few months.

TBH ladies, I do think this is a great form of contraception - excellent because you are covered for 5 years, and it really does beat having to take the pill everyday. But FOR ME, it was wrong. I know of so many girls on this that RAVE about it, and great they they have found something. I guess I am in the 20% that had a reaction to it...

BTW Trillian, I see the gyno in Jan, and the clinic doctor suggested that if they have to do any sort of keyhole through my bellybutton, to ask them to wack in a couple of clips whilst they are in there... But hopefully I don't have to go as far as keyhole surgery...

Anyways Ladies I am OFF to enjoy my freedom and wrap up the vasectomy brochure she gave me - Xmas pressie for DH!! If not, my dad said he'd happily do it with two bricks....

For whatever reason, a lot of doctors are still saying that these implants don't cause or aggravate depression. I had to go to several before someone would take it out, because they all said I didn't have a good enough reason to NEED it out.

I know its none of their business, and if you want it out they should just do it, but when you;re being affected so stronly by something, you can't always stand up for yourself like normal!

    Unhappy

Dear MissWingBat and all other ladies who've posted here,

I'm so sorry to hear all the hell people have been going through since having this put in.

I had mine put in a week ago today and was back at the Austin ER on Saturday after being up all night, unable to sleep and then crying uncontrollably after looking at my 10 month old and not feeling like I loved him. It was the most awful feeling. I love him so much but I just felt so distant. I spent all morning there being shuffled between the Austin and Mercy and they even made me see a psych nurse - great! I'm sure now I have some "history" there, in that sense. Eventually, I saw a Mercy dr and she basically talked me out of having it removed. By the time I decided not to, I was so tired, I just wanted to go home. She said to come back Tuesday (tomorrow) to see how I'm going and gave me Temazipam to sleep!!!

Since having this put in last week, I've noticed my moods becoming increasingly worse. I already suffer from depression and am taking Lexapro for it. It was suggested to me that an IUD would be good because I am unable to take the pill due to my moods. The weird thing is, when I went to see my GP about it, she told me the one they'd put in would have NO HORMONES but wasn't going to be 100% effective, contraceptive wise. However, when I got to the hospital, they put in the Mirena, even after chatting with me and finding out my history. They said if it caused any problems, they could put in the non-hormonal, copper one. Shouldn't they have done this first? I'm so angry.

AF was due on the day they put it in and I was suffering some PMS which I do every month but since having this done, no AF, just constant, weird bleeding and I feel like I still have PMS to be honest.

I've just come across all those articles too, about all the side effects of this thing and I'm shocked. I'm already VERY overweight and can't risk putting on any more, also, I've only just gotten rid of adult acne since having Billy, so I don't want that back. I can't believe they make this s*it and we are ENCOURAGED to use it? I'm shocked, I really am. However, I'm so glad I've read all this and found this thread too.

I just can't believe how crap I feel and how quickly these symptoms came on. I'm going to see my dr tomorrow and then having it taken out. Like some of you have mentioned, it's not worth it. I'd rather not use any sort of contraceptive like this. It's so invasive.

Sorry for my big, selfish rant ladies. MissWingBat, I hope you're feeling better. Thank you all SO much for sharing here and helping me realise that I'm not completely insane.

Without trying to sound all conspiracy theory, i'd say that from the sheer amount of women claiming these side effects and their doctors adament it is not the mirena's fault and trying to persuade them not to have it removed.... i would be inclined to say i'm sure they get some kind of financial incentive for the amount they put in and perhaps a loss in reputation for any they remove (among the pharmacutical companies). I believe the same is with the mini pill - as i went to the clinic wanting a diaphragm and left with the mini pill - the Dr raved about it and had all amount of propaganda on the mini pill, i really felt she talked me in to it. She claimed there would be no effects on breastfeeding but as soon as i started taking it my son would pull off and not feed anymore. After doing some research i found others had the same effect. As soon as i stopped taking it - he fed again in desperation. I reported this effect and she almost made me feel as though i was nuts saying it couldn't possibly be the pill and that no one else had ever had this happen. I hate the way they disempower you in this way - they may have medical trainining but they should put more faith in our intiuition when knowing that something IS affecting us and our babies.

I really wish someone would come up with reliable non hormonal contraception.

    MummaB,

I'm with you and am completely not into the whole "conspriacy theory" stuff, as a rule. However, my Mum just said to me, they must get something out of it or why else would they be so desperate to have you keep it in? It's so strange. They made me feel like a complete nutter, even getting the psych nurse in. I should've just said, "get it out or I'll pull it out myself, right here!". Sorry to hear of your ordeal with the mini pill too. Glad to hear that you stood your ground and did what you felt was right.

    Hi girls
Just thought I would pop in and say "THANK YOU!!!"
I was thinking about getting a Mirena, but now after googleing and reading what you had to say about it, I don't think I will.
I have enough problems with out adding to them.

The Dr who told me pregnancy cures Endometriosis and Ashermans Syndrome just might not know everything. (She made the Mirena sound like it was the best thing since sliced bread.)

    Take care
    Chris

    Hiya Ladies,
Just thought I would drop in and give everyone an update, because I really appreciated your support and advice through all of this.

It has now been a month since I had it removed (nearly) and TBH, the first week was really crappy, but most people said that it would. The second I 'crashed' literally, emotionally and physically, but now I finally feel like the fog has lifted...
    The acne is gone.
The mood swings - not as horrific, but still calming down a bit.
The weight - well,,,,,,, It's Christmas!!
But generally, I honestly feel like a cloud has lifted off me. I am more motivated, interested, and feel like the blinkers have been pulled off.
So, if anyone out there has a Mirena and feels a bit 'erg', check it out...

    Thankyou to everyone!!

MissW, I'm so glad you're feeling better.
Sounds like such an awful space. Maybe you could say something to that awful nurse you had? She should know the kind of impact she can have on already vulnerable women and she needs to be put in her place.
Or give me her details and I'll do it! I hate bullies.
