    Misoprostol

Has anyone else used this successfully? I would really like to know what anyone else had experienced, and how long after your dose(s) did AF return?

I have had 2 doses (1st dose on 23rd Sept, 2nd dose on 25th Sept) and still have 1.5 cm of retained product left in my uterus. I am contemplating whether to have d&c or not. I have to go back on 16th Oct for them to do another check. The doctor did say I was borderline, but I am getting annoyed by the constant bleeding - I'm on day 11 now.
I just think that the statistics of things that could go wrong with a d&c are worrying me, but I don't want to get an infection either due to retained products.

    Hope someone can help.

    Hi there,

My first pregnancy was unviable, i went to nearly 10 weeks with a blighted ovum and went to Marie Stopes clinic and was administered Ru486 misoprostol and mifespristone. They tell you the pain is like period pain but it isn't! It was the most excruciating pain i've ever experienced, i thought i was going to die. With the pain i also had vomiting and diahorrea, my body was shaking uncontrollably and i couldn't move, the pain lasted at least 8 hrs. If it happened again i would opt for D & C for sure!
I went for RU486 because i had concerns about an invasive procedure.

I'm not up to date with what's best/used for this sort of thing but I do know misoprostol is the drug that was used by Obstetricians in the 1990's which resulted in ruptured uteruses in VBAC women (they figured this out and stopped doing it by the end of the 1990's). There's simply not enough testing done in obstetric medicine.

I'm sure you've probably got this all sorted now but for anyone considering it, I would definitely do your research on this one before accepting this sort of drug. Google misoprostol / marsden wagner (ex director of the WHO's Maternal & Child Health) / uterine rupture.

thanks for your comments even though i am all sorted now. i did have to have d&c in the end and would definitely not use the tablets if i ever have to make that decision again. they did advise to use misoprostol before having the d&c as well to open up the cervix, so all in all i had 3 doses of it.

Babyluv i also had concerns about an invasive procedure, which is why i opted for tablets. it sounds like you had a very bad experience after taking them. i didn't have much pain or anything like that, i just had retained products and constant bleeding that could not be controlled.
