    myths of miscarriage...

I am a bit annoyed about this...

I know I'm probably not in a very good head space at the moment and this probably isnt what people want to read, but I'm all for truth and free info etc.. I wish I had known these two things earlier..

1: no blood = pregnancy all ok!

so not true...both my MC's I have had no blood. no cramping, no sign at all that anything was wrong. (apart from a lack of MS, but that can be different in any and every pregnancy)

2: HCG levels are an indicator that all is ok.

also not true. I had my levels tested 3 x in this last pregnancy. 3 x my levels were increasing. they never decreased.
I asked about this at the hospital and was told that with a blighted ovum, the placenta can keep producing HCG, even though the pregnancy is not viable...

    anyone know of any others?

I think these are my two main ones, also symptoms or lack thereof. With my last pregnancy I was exhausted, sore boobs, queasy etc even after I had started to m/c. My Dr explained that it is because the hormones causing these symptoms were caused by the sac or placenta which can continue to develop even with a BO.

Also, bleeding or lack thereof is a ****ty indicator too. I had quite heavy bleeding this pregnancy but no MC, my last mc I only had light spotting and it was obviously not ok!!

Severe morning sickness is a sign of a healthy pregnancy? I've always had severe ms and 2 of those ended in mc. I agree with your hcg point, mine were doubling nicely etc and I got to 12 weeks with a blighted ovum and had to take action because there was no sign of my body doing things naturally.

It can be the reverse too. I had no MS at all and had lots of bleeding. I did not miscarry.

Once you see a heartbeat, all is ok. What a load of BS. With my mmc, we saw the heartbeat at 6 weeks, but bub passed about 2 weeks later. We found out at 10 weeks.

As for the other myths about pregnancy... that you're safe after the 1st trimester, that if all is good at the 20 weeks scan, then you're in the clear... that may be statistically more likely but there are no guarantees with pregnancy or birth. Bad things can happen at any time and there's nothing you can do about it. Which basically goes for life.

I could've written that too I know first hand no stage is safe we thought with our first once we hit "12 weeks" we were safe we have hit 12 weeks twice and lost twice after that mark

I think the only myths for miscarriage, pregnancy and birth are believing that there are any rules in the first place.

There is no formula, no rules, no guarantees that anything will be 100% how you hope and wish it will be.
All these little addages are simply ways people convince themselves to hold on to hope that it will be alright. It gives them hope.

That was the one that caught us by surprise last time. I didn't see it coming at all.

Limeslice, you make a good point.

Brown blood is old and ok. Red is bad. Not true here. I agree there just aren't any rules and I am sending you a massive hug. M/c changes everything and you never are the same again.

What I was going to say, I cringe when I read that written because I only ever got brown blood in my 2 losses.

    I agree with LS 100%
