Oh honey![]()
You know you miscarried and this bleeding is out of the ordinary - You need to go to the doctor and get some medical advice. Do you have a nice GP?
***VERY TMI THREAD***
So, I had my 3rd miscarriage about 6 weeks ago. I didn't go the the doctor or hospital at the time, because I was more confident in myself than I was in the doctors, figured I'd get blown off as usual. I've never needed a D&C, my body tends to do that well, at least.
Today I've started bleeding a lot, changing a maternity pad per hour or slightly quicker. This is fairly normal for me, the level of bleeding. I'm also passing fairly large clots. I went to change pads about an hour ago, and wiped a 'thing', about half palm size. Not a clot, it was smooth, all in one piece, and it had a 'tail' bit, that looked different from the whole. The main part was basically the consistency of an uncooked chicken breast. It looked like my sister's placenta. Maybe if I write small, I don't have to admit it to myself?
After just staring at this 'thing' for a while, I realised that I've been bleeding on and off, mostly on, since the miscarriage. I might stop for a day, but then it'll start again. And in the last week, I've also had a brown discharge that smells quite offensive.
I'm writing this in disbelief, and I'm pretty sure that I need a D&C. I really want to just bury my head in the sand and leave it. I really DON'T want to go the hospital and be blown off again. They're gonna look at me like I'm stupid for not having gotten the pregnancy confirmed medically, not going to the doctor when I miscarried, not paying attention to the symptoms. I suppose I am stupid.
I guess I just want you to tell me that I definitely need a D&C, and that the hospital will agree. Or tell me I'm overreacting and its nothing, and I should just get back to work. And definitely stop crying.

honey, i have no advice, except that maybe you should see your doctor.
hope you're ok xoxo
Not a regular one. I was considering just going to KEMH after work, rather than stuffing around waiting days for test results etc.
Thanks for taking me seriously hun![]()
I think an ultrasound will check to see if you need a DC hun![]()
I agree. I think you should get t his checked out. If you go to ER then demand that you be seen and demand that they send your for an US.
Let us know how you go babe - thinking of you xox
You know what, they don't need all the backstory anyway, just say you had a miscarriage and how you're bleeding heaps - I need an ultrasound.
Will be thinking of you - hope you get on ok (is your hubby able to go with you?)
I don't think they'll make you feel silly. Or at least, I hope they will be sensitive enough to take your concerns seriously and not judge you.
I'm so sorry you're going through this, I really hope you're ok.
Good advice - you don't need to go into the hows, whats & wheres.
Please, please go to the hospital or GP though. You need an u/s & bloods to find out exactly what is happening. It may even be another pg - this happened to me, I thought it was a previous m/c as I too was bleeding on & off but it was confirmed it was another pg (& unfortunately another m/c)
Also, you are not stupid. I have always m/c naturally & refused to have a D&C too. You do what you believe is best for you at the time & that is what you did.
Like the others have said, just let them know that you know you've miscarried and that you're still bleeding and you need an ultrasound.![]()
I agree with what everyone has saidthinking of you
![]()
I agree - please get a check up just in case Berenice![]()
oh sweetheart
You are NOT stupid. You are heartbroken and scared and fed up - but def not stupid.
I hope you got wonderful care this afternoon and are getting the help you need.
please get yourself looked after. I hope you can find a kindly caregiver.
Awwww hunyou might find that now you've passed this rather large clot/placenta that the bleeding will settle down - it could have been preventing your uterus from contracting and expelling everything (I'm so sorry to have to use these words
) hence the on again off again bleeding, but I think that it's time you did go and have a scan and a D&C to see that everything has come away because it sounds like you've had a bit of retained product this time and you need a little help
Most importantly though, you are not stupid, you knew what you were doing and now it's time to get a little help and you know that![]()
Oh BereniceI hope you got to see a dr and have an ultrasound. I had an ultrasound after a few days of bleeding to see if it had all come away, and didn't need a d&c.
*big big hugs*![]()
Thanks for all your replies ladies
I'm in hospital at the moment, in a room in emergency. The triage midwife was lovely, she listened carefully to what I had to say, and told me I'd given it a good go on my own and they would just make sure my body was doing it's thing. The doctor came in next, and she was also quite niceShe was quite knowledgeable about me being a JW and not wanting blood, or possible the anti-d injection. I didn't actually know about it, so she gave me the medical info and then told me it wasn't a decision I needed to make now, so I could feel free to talk to others and do the research, and it would all be ready for next time. It's so nice not to be bullied or condescended to, just listened to.
So, they've taken bloods, swabs, and a urine test. The urines already come back negative, but they said that doesn't mean much so far past the miscarriage. She also did an internal exam and found that my right side is quite tender and swollen, so I've got 2 types of antibiotics to take. Apart from that, unless the bloodwork comes back with a surprise, I've just gotta go to my gp and get a scan done as soon as possible, rather than staying in overnight to get a scan done tomorrow.
She also said that 3 is kinda the magic number in gynaecology, and I would probsbly be able to get a specialist to listen now, because there's documented medical history of a significant problem. So hopefully something good will come out of all this
Thank you all again, for your kind words and gentle butt kicking![]()
Sometimes you just need assurance that you're doing the right thingI'm glad you're at the hospital and have the abs - the last thing you want is an infection. I hope the Dr can get you in for a scan quickly so you don't have to wait this out much longer.
