Question What's going on? Is this normal?

I had my second miscarriage on March 13. DH & I didn't plan for me to fall pregnant so it was a confusing time for us both when numerous tests showed a BFP and then I bled a few days later. I was 5w2d pregnant.

Anyway, now I am getting brown spotting pretty much every second day. Today I thought AF was here, but it was just heavier spotting with some stringy, pink mucus throughout.

As I had no idea what was going on, I haven't had an ultrasound or anything like that. I was really hoping everything would resolve itself and I could go on with grieving and move forward but now I don't know what to do.
    Is this normal?
If & when should I go to the Dr and request an ultrasound?
I know if the bleeding gets heavy, or if I get a fever, pains or if there is any strange smell I am to go straight to the Dr or hospital, but what do I do about this annoying spotting?

    TIA
    Lisa

I am sorry Lisa for the loss of your little one...

Have you done a repeat preg test? If so and it's negative then I would just think this is part of the process. I have had three very early losses and I remember similar to what you describe.

It is very very unusual to need an intervention with such an early loss (but of course anything is possible). I hoep that helps some sweety...

    Thinking of you.

    Thanks for your reply Inanna,

I did do a repeat test a week later and it was negative. I was hoping because it was early that there would be no need for a D&C as I didn't need to have one with my first MC at 8w2d. I am truly hoping this is all part of the process, as you said. It is just confusing as it is happening every second day.
    Thanks again

I really think Lisa that I would just go with it for now. It doesn't sound abnormal to me. I experienced similar. It would be highly unlikely to require a D&C this early - but it can take a while for things to settle back to normal.

    (TMI warning)

I'll join in - would it be normal for me to still be getting something similar? It's not blood, but I am getting stringy, mucousy "stuff", usually with a little bit of brownish discharge...

Yes darling heart it's not unusual for this to happen post delivery. After some of my births that happened as well. Your body has been through a big process of birth & it takes time for this to settle. Sometimes (often I would suggest) it will take a while for your body to cycle normally again. I hope you are feeling okay Teni - which is such a stupid thing for me to say... I hope you are travelling as well as you can. You are in my thoughts often. Just this week I lit a candle for Ianto I dom't know why but you were both on my mind.

So, yes it's normal. So long as it doesn't smell, it's not itchy or hurting it is most likely to be part of te process of returning your body to post baby cycles. If you are concerned do see a practitioner...

I wasn't massively concerned, but I was planning to bring it up at my debrief with the ob in a couple of weeks just in case Thanks for easing my mind, it had disappeared for a day or two then came back again tonight so I wasn't sure...

And to answer your question, I'm doing fine. There are obviously parts where it hits me all at once, but for the most part I'm alright. I'm surprising myself with how I'm coping... If I was someone on the outside looking at me, knowing my history, I wouldn't have thought I could cope.
