We have only just started TT DD (first weekend just gone) and I understand that these things just take time but I have DH having a little cranky rant everytime she doesn't wee in the toilet (read: wees on the carpet).
We put her on the toilet, especially at the times when I know she needs to go, but she just doesn't wee in the toilet . She's a wriggly little thing so I can't get her to sit on the toilet for anything longer than 5 minutes even with distraction techniques like reading her a book (I don't want to force her). She usually gets off and within the next 5-10 minutes she's wet herself. Granted she comes running to me very quickly saying 'wee wee Mummy wee' - sometimes even mid wee.
Is it too early to expect a wee in the toilet? I just want to be able to tell DH that these things take time and give hime some more stories. Or do you think she just not quite ready? Honest opinions and stories welcome
I also find a potty good, especially for beginning toilet training. By using the potty the child can actually see what they've done (which has to be a positive thing). Yes, it's an extra thing to clean, but tipping the contents into the toilet and flushing holding the edge of the potty under the rim of the toilet, gets most of the mess anyway.
I do FDC and toilet train many children (if I didn't some of these kids just wouldn't get done). I've just finished with a 2y4m girl, it took me 5 weeks all up to get from me taking her and telling her its time to go, where now she will tell me that she needs to go. We haven't had an accident in a couple of weeks now. She's in day care 5 days a week, so it was much easier for me to do it then parents. We spent the first couple of weeks using the potty, where she could see her successes, then moved up to the toilet (her choice - she wanted to be like the big kids). She's a bit of a wiggle puss as well and managed to almost fall of the toilet the first few times until she learnt to be careful sitting up there.
Thanks for the advise. DD is going alright at childcare now (still some accidents) but she now refuses to sit on the toilet or potty at all at home. It's so frustrating. At the moment we have her in the pull-up nappies just to stop the constant accidents at home. Not sure if she's being difficult because she can or what.
The little girl that has just learnt at my day care was doing that for her parents as well. Would happily go to the potty/toilet for me, but would refuse at home. I ended up telling her that she had to do her wees and poos at home as well in the toilet, and grandparents toilets as well. Seemed to work. But she's a funny type of kid. (I've also had her here since she was 4mo so know her pretty well)
