So, we have been talking about toilet training with DD1 for a few weeks. No pressure, just mentioning it and explaining about it. On Friday she decided she wanted to wear undies and use the toilet so from then till now we have been following her lead but if she asks for a nappy we have been doing that too. She hasn't had any accidents and has had lots of wees in the toilet. Poos are different and from what I've read, I was expecting this. I think she is asking for a nappy for poos.

Today, she was playing when she suddenly stopped and looked over to me saying poo and I said quick quick and we got on the toilet. She had a small skidmark in her undies but I was proud she obviously realised and knew to stop. Once on the toilet though... nothing! We sat there a while and then I said I just had to go get something for DD2 because I thought she might want some privacy... still nothing though! So I said how bout we have some TV time while you sit on the toilet and she agreed (we don't usually watch TV so bit of a novelty for her). She is sitting there now watching so how long do I leave her there? I feel like I've sort of stuffed up with the TV thing because I don't want to let her sit there and watch too much and also if I turn it off once she poos then will she start to think if I sit and hold on I can watch for longer... aaah!! I think though if we can get one poo in the toilet she might sort of realise and that, like motivate her...

She has a wrapped up present sitting next to her that she knows is for if she does a poo on toilet or potty. For wees we did 5 star stickers then a prize which seems to have worked. We don't seem to have any problem with wees and stopped the sticker thing after 10 (so 2 prizes) and she still seems to be going and all that.

This is easily the hardest part of parenting so far... wishing I had known more about elimination communication now because it does feel like we are trying to untrain behaviour we encouraged and it is so stressful now (internally) especially having a 3month old to settle and feed and such...
