I'm trying to TT Imran since he seems keen on wearing underpants and going to the loo (unlike his brother who screams for his nappy if I put undies on him).
How often should I offer him the chance to use the potty?
He's about 20 months old I think... (I should look at my ticker lol)
ETA - he's hardly had his hand out of his undies since I put them on lol. If it doesn't work I'm going to have to gaffer tape his nappies on.
Chloe, this is a really hard one. I find with Jack (who of course is nearly a year older than Imran), that it varies from day to day. Some days he will use the toilet often, other days he refuses. It is frustrating as he is quite capable of tting, he just doesn't seem to want to. He seems quite content to walk around in wet undies, apparently it's preferable to stopping playing . I like to offer the toilet about 15 mins after a drink, and about half-hourly otherwise. But as I said, some days this will work well, other days he just refuses to use the toilet and asking him often seems to make it worse. I would just take it day by day and play it by ear. GL with it, I think this is the one area where we have the raw end of the deal having boys LOL.
My daughter is 20 months also and has just started taking her nappy off consistently and been a 'rudy nudy' as i like to call her. During these nudy times i sit her on the potty every 15-20 mins. This may sound excessive but i figured better be safe than sorry. I have not actually had her use the potty yet but she has used the big toilet twice. (oh and he floor more often, lol) Would he let you know if he needed to go? I dont think my DD knows b4 it happens iykwim as she gets quite upset when it does almost like she is scared at what her body is doing. She carries on with the whole 'uh oh, oh no' thing for ages when she has done her business without a nappy. Good luck starting to TT.
With Zander I put him on the potty as soon as he woke up then I gave it an hour, after that I asked every 15 minutes. If it got to 2hours 15 or there abouts I would take him anyway. He tended to need the loo every 2 hours so it worked well.
When we first starting training I would remind her constantly...to the point where she'd get really frustrated with me and be all "Nooooo mummy I don't NEED to wee!!!"
But I was sick to death of cleaning up puddles so I was all over her about it. I reckon every 20 min to half hour.
Now she's good and she tells me when she needs to go but if she hasn't been for a few hours or she's been really distracted playing I still remind her.
Its funny you should mention this Chloe because I've been thinking of starting Seth soon. He LOVES to sit on the loo before he has a bath, and is starting to try and take his nappy off all the time, so I'm thinking he's nearly ready too. Whether he takes to it or not is another question. Paris was too easy, I never remember offering her, she just went. She only ever had 1 accident and it was my fault. I swear I'm due for my comeuppance I had it too good with that kid...
I'm thinking about starting Tallon too. I don't really want 2 babies in cloth nappies over the next winter hehe.
He knows the toilet is where we do wees.. or at least where mummy & daddy do wees! hehe. And I think today he took off to hide behind the lounge to do his poo.. so I'm pretty sure he's aware of things more now.
I haven't offered the loo yet.. as to be honest, with a new baby, I'm just too lazy to be consistent with it just yet. hehe. But I did ask mum where to start with TT, and she said just sit him on it at regular times.. like if he does a regular after breakfast poo or something, then stick him on the loo then, as well as when he first wakes up etc.
I spose just getting them used to the toilet is a start. TBH I have NO idea where to start with all this LOL.
we have been tting makon for 2 and a half weeks we offer the toilet when we see him playing or he just goes off to the toilet by himself(im so amazed at how easy tting has been, but he is much older then your babies)
he has even don poos in the toilet!
makon also wees and poos in the garden but its fine by us(we have a huge block so dont usually step in it)
I started of asking Rylan every 10-15 mins or so to begin with because some days he would have a drink and then pee about 30mins later then next time he would drink and then basically walk away and pee so it got to the point where he would yell at me for asking so often lol
He is alot older then Imran he was 3 in august and wasnt trained until november, and like Liz i had a new baby and couldnt be stuffed trying, so he stayed in nappies a bit longer than i planned but i wasnt being consistent so it was my bad, but now he is not wearing nappies at all he even stopped wearing them to bed but we do still have accidents every now and then, funnily enough we only have accidents at home never while we are out, thank goodness
goodluck hope it goes well
