Just trying to work out what to do.
DS is happy to sit on the toilet and do poo. He is 2 and a half. With this warm weather I had him in jocks all day yesterday and wet thru 5 pairs but poos in the toilet.
Today we only wet thru one pair. But I have to ask him every half hour like a puppy dog "do you need to do wees?" So he did wees today on the toilet and only had one accident late in the arvo.
I just really dont think he gets it tho. He will wet his jocks unless i get him to sit on the toilet and try to wee. Poo is fine i think he feels the bowel motion so he knows.
So I'm a bit confused as to wether I should keep going and perservering or stop for a bit. I dont want to undo all the good i have achieved so far but its me prompting him. He isnt telling me himself every time!
If he is happy to sit on the toilet or potty and do wees, keep going. If it is distressing him then stop as it might make him regress.
My DS would not even sit on the potty and then I said too bad and put him in undies for two days and let him wet himself for two days until he slowly, caught on that it meant a wee. Then he would get it but a little too slowly to make it to the toilet!
But definitely if he is not upset by it or distressed by it, keep prompting. It is what we do in the centre all the time to assist with toilet training.
DS was (& still is at home) similar. He will only wear a nappy at home (will wear undies all day at daycare) and will go to the toilet at home for poos but will (most of the time) just wee in his nappy. He gets it, I think its more just a comfort thing for DS (the nappy, I mean).
I'd keep going if he's happy to sit on the toilet. Keep asking - the more he goes, the better he'll understand when it is he needs to wee.
Have you tried without anything on? My DD is fine at daycare in knickers but if wearing knickers at home she just sits down and wees straight through them - or forgets she needs to use the potty and wees on the floor. But with no knickers she is fine.
Ok we have made some progress! I have just perserved with having him jocks (except for nighttime and arvo nap). I stayed home all day wed, thu, fri and sat and he has told DH and I he needs to wee so I'm pretty sure he gets it. I have had to still ask him every half hour or so just to make sure! We even went to a friends house and used the toilet there so that was good!
I am just going to keep him going like this now and then once he has mastered the whole thing we will teach him to stand up and wee...just easier atm to teach him sitting down! We had him outside yesty and tried to get him to wee in the garden standing up but no success!
So thank you for the advice...it def helped just perservering
