Which potty?

DS is beginning to show signs of being ready to TT so I've been looking at the different types of potties/inserts and was just wondering what potty/inaert you use and how easy your DD/DS found it to use?

I saw the 'weeman' and although its a good idea I'm wondering what about poo's? Has anyone tried the weeman?

Never bothered with the weeman, just got a step so they can reach over the bowl

On the potty topic, MIL went gung ho and got a fancy musical one and it's been a waste because the boys only ever wanted to play with it. They would crack it when the music stopped and get up and put their hands in it to set off the sensors again I went and got a plain one for about $5 and it's worked a treat!

Yeah I was thinking about just going and getting one from Ikea. I thought about the musical one but DS will think its just another toy!

I've tried a few and am really happy with my BabyBjorn potty. It's plain but very comfortable looking... and importantly has a backrest so that when they are reversing into position they don't overshoot the mark and tumble over. It's a bit more pricey than most but it's been our most successful. I'll take a photo of it and come back and link to the gallery when I've uploaded it.

I bough a $6 potty from Big W - the only thing is sometimes he sits on it backwards and won't be turned around - obviously that's how he wants to sit at the time . Bath's potty would avoid that problem.

I also bought an insert for the loo at Big W which DS hates - but maybe it'll get use later once he's got the potty down pat.

Ive bought DS an insert for the toilet itself. It cost $5 or so from Kmart and you stick it under the toilet seat and they just sit on it like the normal toilet. Once he starts getting into it, im going to get one with steps. Just kinda figured if i have to train him to use a potty (which is a foreign object he hasnt seen anyone use), ill then also have to train him to use the big toilet.. i might aswell just start out on the big toilet which he sees both DH and myself use and figured he would relate to it alot easier. In saying that, he isnt toilet trained yet so dont know if it will work but thats my theory. I do tell him though when im doing a wee and ask if he wants to do a wee.. seems to work, he sits on it.. yet to get a wee out of him but its a start!

Yeah, but with my 3 it turned out easier to have a separate potty because they felt less intimidated by it than the big toilet... they just didn't like having to balance up on the big toilet with their feet dangling in the air... and they HATED it if you flushed it too soon afterward... even after they climbed down... they imagined falling down into it I guess. Anyhow... we threw out the insert... I tired with each child but it was too much hassle. They have all used the potty independantly (I'm TT my youngest ATM). Often I'll be passing through the bathroom and see that my 2yo have used it at some stage without me even knowing... that's the kind of indepedance I prefer. I know that some people are huge advocates of only using the big toilet... I guess you do whatever works and that could be different for each family. We also use cloth training pants to encourage independance... he just pulls them down (on a good day) and uses the potty without trying to pull them down and climb up onto the big toilet getting tangled up on the way. We also throw the potty inner part into the car on long car trips so we don't need to stop on the edge of a road... he uses it in the back of the station-wagon and we just tip the wee out when we can.
