Is it too early?

Hi. Just looking for a bit of advice. I started TT my daughter who is now 18months last week & am wondering firstly is she too young and secondly how long it usually takes. My mother in law said she trained all 7 of her childre in 2 weeks but it has been nearly 1 week and im not seeing much progress at all?

I have her potty (which looks just like a mini toilet with lid and everything) sitting next to my toilet in the ensuite so she knows what it is- just a smaller version, lol but when I take her nappy off and sit her on it - she will get off and walk to the corner of the ensuite & wee on the floor. By the time I quickly move her back onto the potty she has finished..

I dont force her to stay on it (as we are in the ensuite for about 10 mins before she goes) as I thought forcing her on it would make her scared. She hops off & on her potty in the 10min period several times but without doubt each time wees on the floor? I put her on the potty about every three hours but am wondering if I need to be doing it alot more regularly?

I also wanted to know what you think about moving the potty into the lounge room or play room etc. I was told that I should let her play with it in the lounge room so she gets used to it- but I personally dont want her to think of it as a toy- I just dont know what to do?

I keep the ensuite and main toliet door shut as I dont like her going near the toilets anyway so this means she cant just go to her potty when she wants anyway. Is this not the right thing to do- should I have it somewhere she can get to herself?

Any help, ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated

I was told by a wise woman that "you don't toilet train children, they toilet learn by themselves". She was right I never did any "training" I stood back and let the kids do it by themselves. REadiness is about a few things, mental readiness and physical toning have to be in sync for it to work, and if you start to early they can relapse sometimes. Is your daughter dry at night? That's a good sign of heading for readiness, as is longer times between wet nappies.

Thanks for your fast reply. She is definately alot drier in between nappy changes which is one of the reasons I decided to try TT but not completely dry at night. I appreciate the advice you have given & will definately take it into consideration, thanks again

Charlotte started asking to go to the toilet at about 19 months. We put her on when she wanted and didn't force the issue. After 2 days at day care and noticing her nappies coming home weren't actually very wet, and having her keep asking to go to the toilet, we switched completely to knickers - day and night.

SO has had a few accidents at day care, none in public and none at home. She weed on the floor a few times lol but always took off her knickers.

By the time she was 23 months she was completely TTd, day and night. I now have the occasional wet bed overnight but only if she is waking frequently in the heat to drink.

She will let you know. I honestly don't know what all the fuss is about - she did all by herself! lmao But I have heard some horror stories.

She now refuses help to get o or off the toilet, goes, climbs up, even puts up the lid and puts her toilet seat on if it isn't already goes, wipes and hopes off Just can't do the wipe after poos lol

Point? - They are all different, but I don't think there is a "too early" so long as they understand the feeling when they need to go, before they go.
