when did you start TT your toddler?

Im sure this has been asked before, but Id love to know when you started TT your toddler and what made you begin?

DD is 2years 4months and lots of people are telling me she is ready and i should start TT.

Im not sure if she is ready. She seems to know when she is going to do something and loves her knickers and the toilet and knows how it all works...but im just not sure if its too soon?

    Anyway, TIA!!

Imran is a similar age and he's semi-trained.
Yasin started teaching him during summer and now we're kind of stop start about it.
He will take of his nappy to use the potty but when he's in undies he's just as likely to wet them as to use the potty. Once the weather warms up I'll get more serious about it but for now he's just training himself and I'm providing undies and a potty for him.
He's really proud of his Diego undies and he hates it when he wets them but he's just not quite fast enough at the moment - he pretty much realises that he needs the potty about 10 seconds before he pees himself.

my ds was 22 months when i started and he picked it up really quick, i use to read him a story called nappy duck and potty pig befor i started and when i did he realated it to the story which i then had to read while he sat there. he was very regular with his bowls befor i started and i think this made it alot easier. i also rewarded him with a small lollie every time he went and he soon got the idea, the only thing i recomand is start in summer that way its warmer on their bot and that you put your dd in the potty every hr dont ask her just say potty time, if you ask she will say no and thats when accidents happen, although they are going to any way.
You could even try to put the potty next to the toilet if you have enough room and go at the same time as her and it might encourage her.
    Good luck with it all.

DD was about 2.5 if i remember right... i tried the pull up pants to start with but she just thought it was a nappy and just wet them even rewards wouldnt work, Then i just put her in knickers one day and she went to the toilet everytime including Poo's and i thought i would try her over night without a nappy 2 days later and she didnt wet the bed so 3 days it took me to get her out of day and night nappies.... It took me awhile to work out not to use the pull ups, I was using them for about 2 mths before trying just knickers so if i had of put knickers on her instead of trying the pull ups she mite have trained earlier........

So my advice is DONT use pull-ups LOL
    Good luck with it...

We are in undies today, LOL. So far we have had 1 wee on the toilet and 2 accidents. In the past week, 5 out of 7 days she has done the poo on the toilet. And also some wees. So I decided to try it out and see how we go. DD is 2.4 years also.

A lady from our mothers group used a certain method to train her girls and she said it worked perfectly each time. The method was, to stay home for a week (well when you can) and keep them in undies all day. No changing over to nappies etc (except for sleep). She said the first day there were heaps of accidents, but with each day it got less and less and by the end of the week they were toilet trained. So this is what we are going to try.

Good Luck for when you do start TT

With Kameron we did start around 2.5 and it was hard work, he was still in pull up at night till he was way past 5 cause he would just constantly wet the bed.

Lachlan on the other hand we decided we would leave, so we started training him the day he turned 3. 1 wee in the potty and he basically had it down pat, he was also night trained fully 2 weeks later. Was wearing jocks to bed for ages before Kameron finally got into jocks at night time.

Ashton, we will do what we did with Lachlan and wait till 3, unless he can tell us otherwise before then.

    Love

My DD1 is a week older than your DD and she has been TT during the day about 8 weeks. We are still working on nights. I tried about a month before and we had several accidents so after a couple of days gave up. The second time we had almost no accidents for the first week and then in week 2 we had some poo probs with her been scared to go on toilet. This only lasted a week and now she is really good. My biggest advice is to take a potty with you EVEVRYWHERE. So many times whilst driving my DD will decide she needs to go and she isnt very good at holding on. GL and theres no harm in trying if shes not ready you soon find out.

It is raining today and we are not planning to go anywhere so,
I thought I would try DD with toilet training so she can start to get a feel for wearing pants , so off came the nappy and Paige has been doing the happy dance all over the house she is most excited about her Dora underpants and the feeling of being free from the nappy.

Well no less than 10 mins after putting on her pants and hopping off the potty, she stood clutching her bottom....'ooohhh mummy" very suprised look on her face we had our first wet pants.

we have changed and have been sitting on the potty every 30 mins and so far no other wet pants.
Paige is very independently pulling her trousers and pants down and up with a little help reluctanly accepted form mum when needed...LOL

I want to stress that I don't expect her to toilet train just yet as she only turned two in July, just wanted to give her the chance to feel her body working and what it feels like to have wet pants etc.
and as we are home with nothing else to do or no where else to be it's as good a time as any I guess.

The later the better IMO.....Like NAdine mentioned () we've put DD#2 in knickers, had a couple of accidents - shes nearly 2.5....... Im lazy and i forget to pop knickers on her, and we're out most days which makes it hard. Im in no rush, by the time she is 3 i would hope she is fully TT......

    Good luck !

With DD1 she was 2 1/2. She was already going to the toilet on the odd occassion and we encouraged her to get used to the idea. Then I decided having 2 in nappies at the same time was enough work and it was still summer so I gave it a good shot. We bought 'special' undies which she chose and after several days of accidents we had her toilet trained. The wees are not the issue really as its just wet but the poos are awful to try and clean when they've not made it to the loo.

Now its approaching time to toilet train DD2. She's just over 2 1/2 and will tell me when she's done wees or poos by saying 'Char smells' or 'I smell' and sure enough I'll check and she has gone. She isn't telling me beforehand yet so she's not quite ready. Plus, I will not train in winter, summer is much easier and so many less layers of clothing etc to deal with. In summer I'll have a fairly new baby and again won't want to have 2 in nappies at the same time. Charlotte will be 3 on boxing day and I'm hoping I'll get her into undies full time by then.

Toilet training takes a LOT of patience and perserverance. Good luck with it all. Sounds like your little one is definitely showing signs of readiness.

DS is about 2yrs 8months and he is beginning TT.. He started at childcare where they have been putting him on the toilet or encouraging him to sit on the toilet whenever they change his nappy. They have been doing this for a few months, but it could have been since the start of the year, my memory is so bad.. He began to be interested in the toilet and trying to sit on it at home a couple of months ago, but after he broke his leg I was worried it would affect his interest after the cast came off, if that makes sense. Meaning, since he had spend such a long time not being able to move at all I was worried he would not be interested in going to the toilet by himself after the cast.

Just last week he decided to sit on the toilet at childcare and do a wee. He has since been using the toilet at childcare every time they change his nappy. He has even been waking up with dry nappies in the morning, but wouldn't let me put him on the toilet or his potty. Then this morning he used his potty because I had put water in it for him "Like a toilet", he said, and he was sitting on the potty saying "it's coming.." while he waited to do a wee. So I think that is a good sign as he can feel it and recognises the feeling of needing to do a wee. Hopefully he will feel confident enough to use the potty or toilet more often at home.

It's kind of funny.. before I had him I was so sure I would have him TT before this age, but after having him I realised I can't rush things and that I would have to wait for the signs that he felt ready to do it. That, and he's so stubborn if I tried to rush him he'd probably just take longer to spite me. just kidding!

well i had Abby in undies all day today. No accidents- 5 wees and 1 poo all in the toilet! Im really happy for her and shes really excited about it. She is fine with the wees, seems to know with heaps of time to spare but the poop was on its way when she decided she needed to go....Fingers crossed it continues to go this well!
