There is the popular Aussie site that sells them with the die and 400 snaps with free post for $120, Im not sure what brand the press is, but it looks good and solid.
I have come across a NZ site that sells Kam presses. You need to buy the die and snaps additional, but it still is alot cheaper than the Australian one. Only problem is, the postage of an item of its weight is quite a bit! But its still works out quite a good deal even when you do have to pay the post, (press + die +400 snaps = $67 + $40 Post) they also have fantastic prices and great selection (compared with aussie online nappy supply shops) on fabric etc, so I could buy a load of stuff but the postage is going to be about $45. ($20 if I just buy the fabrics and not the press).
I dont know much about snap presses - are they all just the same, are some brands to be avoided - do you pay for what you get????
Please help - I want to do some shopping and get making stuff, but trying to work out what the better option is.
Is there something you should be looking for or considering when buying a snap press?
Where ever I get one from, I dont want to spend the money and have something that breaks in a year or doesnt work very well etc.
Both Snaps Australia and greenbeans sell KAM presses....they just sell slightly different "models" for want of a better term. I have the one from greenbeans as after some research I decided it was ergonomically better designed than the other one. I also have some Aussie friends who have seen it and agree that it seems to be easier to snap with than the one they have. If you look at them on one the handle is more on the top and on the other one is more to the side (back) providing better leverage when snapping. The thing is though whchevr one you choose make sure to get the die sets from the same place as the press as they both take different dies. Having said that snaps from both sellers are interchangable and will work equally well in both presses...Hope that helps!!
Melbel's snap machine bites mine from snap in the butt BIG TIME Salsa....the one from snaps is big and hurts my hands after a while while Mel's is nice and small. The one from snaps is also double the size of the greenbeans one.
Wish I would have know about the one at greenbeans before I bought mine from snaps...
Thanks guys!!
I ordered the greenbeans one last week and Dh put it together for me last night.
I also ordered 2 sz bits, 16 and 20 and some bamboo etc. Have been cutting out and sewing the past few days and will try snapping in the next day or 2. Im looking forward to other things I can make too (which is why I got the 2 szs). Even with the more expensive post (about $50NZ AU$ 70 including the fabric etc) its already working out cheaper than buying all readymade naps.
Thanks for suggesting and confirming the greenbeans.
ok, maybe I'm being thick but I cant find anywhere online except for that new zealand store that sells the kam press..even though on melbel's site it says that nappies covered sells them, I couldnt see them on there! am I being blind?
Just wanted to say "Thank you" for this thread!
I was jussssssssst about to buy the press from Snapsastralia, which was going to come to $150 for the press, dies, 100 snaps, and postage to WA
I checked on greenbeans after reading this, and for everything listed above paid $110!
woohoo just ordered mine from greenbeanz!! I got an email this morning saying they had 20% off snap presses and snaps until tomorrow amongst heaps of other great sales and not likely to have another sale for a long long time due to price rises!!
So I got:
Snapp Press
Size 20 die
size 20 black snaps
size 20 ivory snaps
(boring colours I know, but figure I can buy them in aus when I want diff colours!)
3mt hemp jersery for $17.18, yep, for all 3 metres
11m soft USA black 2cm FOE for $4.50
2 nappy cut white pul - for practicing
1m 140cm white berry microfleece for 98c!
then of course the postage, but still, makes everything I got a good bargain! $127.60 all up for all of that! woohoo!! cant wait for it to arrive hopefully next week
Well done MrsC!!
Great timing on your part - wish I had got mine on sale, but still very happy with my purchases from them anyway. You should have it by mid next week I`d guess. Whats your first project?
hmm first project...will probably be the prefolds once I get around to buying the bamboo terry, but that'll have to wait till november or december pay day lol! I've got 2 weeks off for christmas so am aiming to start nappy sewing then I have a week off coming up but I need to make some more clothes for me otherwise I'll have to start going naked rofl!
woohoo picked up my parcel today! had to duck home to get something for DH so I went to PO on the way and picked it up!! SOOO quick! havent had time to unpack it..hanging out for hometime lol!
Ohhhh I am SO glad I found this thread!! Looks like I might get off the ground for about half the outlay I was expecting!!!! Thankyou Aldi and Thankyou Greenbeans!!!
