Just read while browsing for a new fish oil that cloudiness is fine.
"Like extra virgin olive oil, High EPA Finest Pure Fish Oil may occasionally become cloudy in cold conditions. This is perfectly normal and in no way affects the quality of the oil. If warmed, the cloudiness will disappear. "
The only way to tell if it's rancid is open a capsule and smell it. Most of the ones on the market today have fragrances, like vanilla or lemon to disguise the smell, but if you pierce the capsule, believe me, you can tell if it's off
