I totally understand and think it is completely normal. Your pregnancy and your little one's early life has been medicalised and it is hard to move on from that. But when he is in the home environment it will start to be different. When I bought DD home I did not leave her side, was trying to do the 3 hourly checks for breathing and temp...silly me but I was anxious too.
IN fact as soon as he is in the car I am sure you will feel different and the excitement will take over. Enjoy.
DD was 2.32kg when we brought her home (she was 1.698, also a 34 weeker), she was on 3 different medications. It was scary, she was so tiny (we didn't think so, but looking back at pictures now she looks tiny)
We too were still living like we were in NICU/SCN.
It takes a while to break the habits (We were in NICU for 4 weeks and SCN for 3 weeks).
Bex, I didn't have a prem or any conception issues with DD and I was waiting at the hospital for her real mother to come and collect her. I was unbelievably anxious and stressed taking her home. so I think what you're feeling is really normal.
