    Baby Baths??

    Hi All,

Just wondering people's thoughts on baby baths and whether it is worth buying one with a stand?? I was thinking this may be a good way to go to save my back (as opposed to putting a baby bath in an adult bath) but now thinking is it worth it. So I guess what I'm asking is - how long is bubs in a baby bath for before progressing to an adult bath - and is a stand worth the extra $$ or is it just as easy to place a baby bath on a kitchen bench etc please don't cringe at me if this is a massive no no for safety!! - first time mum to be who is completely clueless

    Justine,
I had a baby bath for my DD only ever used it once. I got this plastic bath tray that DD laid on which was fantastic. It takes bubs up to about 10 or 12 kgs. It elevates them in adult bath so not so hard on the back. Thought this was great and bub loved it. I also have a buggered arm so am kinda one handed so this made it much easier and safer for DD. Would not ever use a baby bath again.

Good question! We are new at all this too

DH and I recently bought just a basic plastic baby bath for $12 (sale at Target) normally about $25 and it's a nice size bath to suit bub's for first few months of it's life and we'll just place it in the main bath probably however when we first bring bubs home from hospital we want to bath by putting it on the kitchen table (with one of us standing holding it and other person washing bubs). I don't think that's a safety worry anyway as we are NEVER to leave baby unattended not even for a second when bathing anyway.
Problem is its gonna hurt our back as there is no drainage and we have to carry it full back to the sink to empty!!! eeeek we probably wasted $12 LOL

We were told not to waste our $$ on those Fisher Price Aquarium baths because they grow out of them way too quick.... we were going to buy one but a lady in the shop stopped and told us not to bother so we didn't!

Those stands look good DH and i just looking on ebay at them now!! they are pretty good prices too! & they come with the bath so you can bring them in the shower with you if you have abig enough shower.... hmm we are looking at this option now.... seeing as i have a cr@p back i wont be able to lift the heavy bath otherwise..

This is what we got. I've used it with both girls now. It's adjustable, and Nina was in it until she was sitting up, then she went into a bath seat.

    Jodi/Renstar,
That is what I was talikng about. They are great. You can get them from Target Big W and Toys R Us at least thats where I've seen them. They are not very expensive. But don't remember what I paid for DD's

I got that from Big W, and can't remember the price, but it was cheap. Maybe around $20 or something?? It's soooo handy, as you can see, you don't have to be physically holding them, only watching them closely. It would break my back having to bath Emily any other way, she's 6.5kg already!

We borrowed one from a friend for the first few months and used it in the adult bath with one of those seats the others are talking about. Our problem is our house came without a plug for the bath and it is an odd size and we haven't been able to find a plug that fits it. So we bought a baby bath on sale and DS still has a bath in it at 13 mths sitting up. He can't lay down but it saves water as we are only filling the baby bath instead of the big bath and when done you just tip it up so you don't have to carry it anywhere (unless you want to water the plants). It has been worth it for us.

Renstar what you are going to do is exactly what we did for all our 3 girls....and are backs are ok.
And your right, you dont need to spend anymore than $12 on a bath - it will do the job.

When baby does get bigger, those baby seat thingys that Jodi has posted are great. We also used one of those terry towling covered layback seats, that you pop in the big bath once they a bit older - they are under $20 in most baby shops....

    Thanks Jodi.

MBear - ok good! Glad to know we are on the right track! Thanks. so perhaps we'll use the $12 bath for a few weeks and then also we'll probably get one of those one's Jodi has they seem great, and i've seen the terry towelling ones at Target they were there when we were getting the bath but i wasn't sure how they worked! LOL

thanks girls something to think about..... as for the baby stands with bath included, are they not really necessary?? unless you have a big shower?

sorry for crashing your thread Justine hope it helps tho!

We bought a fisher price aquarium bath originally. I agree, they are a waste of money. DD hated the hammock as it left her cold. The bath is small and they soon grow out of it.
We use a bigger baby bath in the bath now with one of us holding DD and the other washing.
If we had our time over, we would get a lay back seat for the big bath.
