I have a bumbo. I find it absolutely fantastic.
If you were to place your DD on the floor, without her leaning back against you, but you supporting her by holding her lower back/thighs more for stabilisation, would she be able to sit like this (support her back by herself, hold hersefl up etc)? I ask this because if she cant support her back fully, it wouldnt be a good idea to get the bumbo. Bumbos are designed for babies who can support themselves. If they cant it can do a lot of back damage. While your DD would be able to sit in it, she would 'slump' to the side, and if she cant get herself up, itll mess with her spine. I hope that all makes sense?
My nearly 2yo nephew could sit in my bumbo, just for a size idea
ETA: When i say Bumbo in my post i mean all brands of bumbo type seats

I agree with Baby Designer - I was told unless they can support their own backs and head then they shouldn't be in "made" to sit. It's okay to sit them on your lap but never propped up. They should only sit when they are ready to and can do so from crawling. In saying that my DD sat way before crawling but it was just fluke that one day when she was sitting against me I realised she was holding her own weight.
I have a Bumbo and I love it love it love it! I got the table that goes on it - and Immy sits up well in it. The back support is great! It is really light and portable. Great for taking out.
My 4 year old can sit in it - so chubby legs should not be an issue!!!
I have a close friend whose 1 year old has cerebral palsy, and was unable to support himself or sit up, and she was told by the Physiotherapist to get a Bumbo and put him in it for a few minutes every day, to help with strengthening his back and neck. I think they're great - wish I had one for my kids when they were babies!
I have a bumbo and DD can still sit in it at 2.5yrs. I found that you can now get a playtray to go on the Bumbo which is awesome! I wish I had one with DD but bub #2 will benefit.
I got a bumbo for my niece who has cerebral palsy. She wasn't sitting independently but was able to support her own head. It was great. She loved it because she could sit up and use her arms to play. We used it as a feeding chair as well. It helped strengthen her core muscles as well, because it supports but she isn't strapped in in multiple places.
They come up on e-bay (new and second hand), so if travel is an issue you might be able to get one sent to you.
Older kids with CP use them, so a littlie with chunky thighs will definately fit.
we have a bumbo ( its nicely decorated with ball point pen , thanks to DS) and the play tray too ..
i love it alot and nixon sat in it untill he could crawl , then he would sit in it to eat something and then crawl out , i dont think it got used past 7 mths as DS was a super duper crawler and was mobile from aobut 5.5mths ..
i cant wait to sit DD in it .. it was definatley woerth the investment ..
bebe pods arent as soft and flexible as the bumbo's
