Hi pregpan, I personally would choose a Safe N Sound car seat. I have a pre-loved baby goods business and I have found the Turn-a-Tot is less popular and hard to resell (I refuse to take them in now). People have said they don't like the Turn-a-Tot because it is heavy and bulky. Safe N Sound car seats are easy to install and work so well (all 4 of our personal car seats are Safe N Sounds!).

I'm sure there are people who swear by the Turn-a-Tot, the big plus is that it swivels so it is easy to put your child in it. I suppose weigh up the pros and cons of each and decide from there which is most suitable for you.

    Happy car seat shopping!

Hi again pregpan, I have a really bad back too and have had no problems putting my boys in their Safe N Sound seats (we have a Premier, a Royale and two Maxi Riders, we love them all!). If you put your car seat on the passenger side, not the middle, it is really easy to get your bub in and out without straining your back. HTH

We have 2 safe n sounds. A maxi-rider for Yasin and a smaller convertible one for Imran and they're great.
The boys are comfy and they're easy to install and adjust.

We have safe n sound car seats for our DD - a compaq deluxe in my car (it's smaller) and the platinum in my DH 4WD, we also have a maxirider in each car for our DS. Great seats, can't fault them.

We have the Safe 'n' Sound PRemier and love it. It goes in the middle (recommended for safety ) and fits quite well though our seats have to be quite close to front. Qe couldn't fir the merdian in cause our seats would have been on dash board! IT was a nice seat though!

I have a maxi rider for my 4 yr old.. If you are after a seat for very long term use then I would go the maxi rider.. but in saying that I don't know much about the other ones..

we have a AHR meridian for DD, and LOVE IT!, From memory when looking at car seats i did check out the turn a tot, but i think you can only turn it when its used in the capsule position, therefore only get turning benefit for short time. We too put car seat on passengar door side (not middle position) and had no problem lifting bub in and out (and i too have dodgy back). good luck deciding, perhaps go to another baby shop and get some more opinions from them.

Pregpan we have the Meridian and the good thing about it is it is rearward facing to 12 kgs. It is safer for them to travel that way - check out the posts on this topic here on bellybelly if interested.

We will graduate Flynn to a maxirider once Ollie needs the meridian - he is currently in a safen'sound capsule. we have a 2nd had maxirider for Flynn in my mums car and it is great.

Oh and another thing, a mate who was in the trafic ops division of Vic Police said in his experience kids are safest in capsules (if that is what you have got) for as long as they fit - ie: even if their legs are sticking out they are still safer in the capsule. An accident where the roof comes down and crushes their feet (apolofies for the awful image) are really rare/unlikely so it is better for them in the capsule for as long as their head/body fits.

Don't know if anyone can help or not...Are you able to use American capsules/car seats here in Australia?

Thanks all I got the meridian and so far so good - he is still rearward facing and seems to like it...
Beccababe - I am not sure re using the US car seats here as they have to meet Aus standards - maybe worth calling Kidsafe in your state to check?
