    Carrier

    Hi All,

So I'm thinking of getting a new carrier for cupcake. We had a baby bjorn and a peanut shell with DS. I couldn't really use either. DH loved the peanut shell, but DS got too big for laying in it before he was big enough to be able to be held in it in any of the other positions.

So, I need some advice from some of you wise women What's the best type of carrier? A friend loved the hug-a-bub, so we've been looking at one of those, but what are other types we should consider?

    TIA

I still use both carriers on DS2 and Ergo with DS1.

We are getting an Ergo, only because my sister had SPD and huge back problems and it was the only carrier she could use with her back.
I also have a really bad back so I am getting the Ergo so it's supportive and it's still a good price.

She also still carries her 2.5yo in it with no problems!

Ergo's can also be used sooner than 4 months if you get the infant insert...google them and take a look at their website for more info.

Yep I second the Ergo... I have both infant inserts, the standard one and the new heart to heart insert... DS was too long for the standard infant insert so the heart to heart worked for us!

I also had a Baba sling, which he loved and was so easy to throw on and get him into, but he has outgrown it!

I tried a HAB for a while but TBH the tying got a bit too much for me, too much hard work!

Feeb the new one is much better - baby is in an upright position, but their sacrum and back is still supported. Highly recommend it.

We tried the HAB which was cozy (particularly for a winter baby) but I hated putting it on and off, too fiddly. The Close Carrier solved that problem and DH used it a lot but it hurt my back. The peanut shell we had only lasted three weeks and then DS was too big for it.

I also have a Storch wrap which is lovely but not so great in summer. I have a Mei Tai which we used heaps before I bought an Ergo. By then DS was old enough that we didn't need the infant insert. Both the Mei Tai and the Ergo are great, but the Ergo is more sustainable for lots of carrying and we needed it for bushwalking. I've worn DS in the Ergo for four hours+ with no hassles.

If you only buy one carrier, I'd say go for the Ergo, it's worth the cost. Otherwise do what I did and buy 6 carriers - and the Ergo is the only one we both use regularly.

SIL has that one and doesnt like it either, has since bought close carrier.

I had a baba sling which was great till about 4 months when he got to heavy and it was pulling on my neck.

All so diff what we all like I find it interesting what some love others hate.

i had a HAB and loved it with DS carried him sooo much longer than friends with other styles. Then bought a Bubzilla for DD when she was tiny, it was easier to put her in on quick trips with a 3 yr old in tow! Still used HAB on longer trips and as she got bigger and wanted to see more

I love my kango pouch - it works until around six months - my babies love it.

I like the Close Carrier for newborns until they get to about 8kg, and then something more supportive like a mei tai or a soft structured carrier (like an ergo).

I'm not a fan of the ergo myself, its comfy, but the back is quite short, and if you have long children, you feel as though they are flopping all over the place. I have a Beetlebum half buckle mei tai, which is awesome, and a Dream Carrier full buckle carrier - but I also have a kleinsmekker mei tai, which is sooooo darn comfy (even though I'm selling it, but only cos DH is spitting a bit about all my carrier stash and its his favourite so I'm selling HIS favourite and not mine.. bahahahahahaha)

I haven't tried a hug a bub so I can't comment on that, but I'm pretty useless with wraps, I had a Storch wrap for a while and it just frustrated the heck outta me trying to get it to work with a wriggly baby.
