cot sheets

Where can I get cheap cot sheets? so far I've looked around and can only find single sets (a fitted and a flat) for like $20 (minimum). Is this seriously the going rate? is there anywhere online I can bulk buy a few sets?
am I better of just getting heaps of fabric and cutting it up and doing it myself? I'm not expecting to pay heaps cheap, but $20 for one set is a little steep, esp. seen as that's just for plain white.

and how many sets do people have? i guess it depends if bub spews or not as to how often you have to change them right? realistically how many sets/how often do people change them?

Can't help with prices as my Mum made all mine, as well as the cradle sheets. That's probably a cheaper way of doing it though and you can pick out some really cute patterns!

But as for number of sheets - I think cradle sheets we have about 6 plus Mum hemmed some offcuts (can't think of the proper word!) that just tuck in around the mattress so when he was sick I could just change this instead of the whole sheet. I hope that makes sense! Cot sheets I have maybe 8 and that's just fitted, only that many because I couldn't choose between patterns so you could get away with about half that

I had 2 sheets for bassinet and 2 for cot. They were so quick and easy to wash and dry that have had no issues. Also had 2 waterproof underlays for each.

Cost wise I can't remmember what I paid but think about $15 each (do have boori cot so bigger sheets)

I thought they were all expensive too. I ended up getting 2 sets of white cot sheets from Spotlight on special for about $10 each They have the fitted, flat & pillow case. I didn't see the need for the pillow case or the flat cause I just put the fitted on. We ended up cosleeping anyway so they weren't really needed BUT dh made a bed frame for the mattress we bought ds so that it was just off the ground and it's a double in size so the cot mattress is used as a head for the bed frame if that makes sense? So the fitted sheets are still getting used and will be for years to come lol When I was finding it hard to find cheap sheets I also thought about buying some fabric and making them as I also wanted bright colours which are nearly impossible to find (other then ebay but they are expensive) I got some really groovy rainbow fabric which was never used in the cot, instead I put it over the change table as a cover

We have 3 sets for DD but one set came with the cot set I have for her.

I got some 250 thread count cotton ones that had some pretty lace stuff on it for $25 at Target. We have a Boori (large) size cot as well so like any bed I did expect to pay more than the smaller sized cots. I didn't see $25 as a whopping expense for a flat,fitted sheet an dpillow case consideringshe will be in the cot/toddler bed for a couple of years.

We change the sheets on her bed once a week (though fortnightly atm coz I cannot be bothered). Unless she floods a nappy or something.

I had 3 sets. I didn't have a spewer though. I got mine from Target when they were half price in the baby sale.

i only ever used the bottom fitted sheet, so look for individual sheets rather than sets. I only had 2 or 3 sheets for the cot. My LO was in a hammock for the first 6 months and i made sheets from a sheet of ours that DH had ripped a hole in. Bub wasn't a chucky bub.

Target quite often have sheets for the cots on sale.
I think. Got my sets for $12 and that was a flat, fitted and pillow case.
DD was a chucker but I just put a spew rag under her head so I have only needed 3 sets

We haven't used flat sheets so far. Only 8 weeks in so far, but if you're going a bassinet, esp in summer then I'd go fitted only. Baby bunting sell them separately I think.

yes I have just discovered this... and finding exactly what i want, cheaper than big w and everywhere else i have looked. only thing i cant get there is my terry flats, which were at big w until today when i looked for them and they werent there =(

but...yes, i am currently spending a bit on target online =P

perhaps you could just get sets of single flat sheets, just use the flat sheets from the sets?

that way you don't need actual cot sheets - and you'll need the singles sooner or later anyway

Thats actually a really good idea Peanutter, i was thinking even if i get a cot set, i can still just use the flat sheets aswell (but as bottom sheets), so really getting 2 in 1.

Bugger, they have heaps at my local target, baby bunting and toys r us stock them too.....

OP we use blankets and sheets in winter in melb as well, sometimes 2 blankets but ah well we do it safely, as I'm sure u do too!

I made a list of everything I'd need for the first 6 months, then spent a day and a half pricing at 6 of the major places in my area ... do that! then figure out what has most of the cheapest things - and ask them to match the prices on the balance.

and if you're in Melbourne, wait until you get your Bounty Bag (not sure if they have them in other states?) and factor the Baby Bunting 10% discount card into it.

terry flats are cheap as chips and work fine. the plain white ones at Big W work out abnout $2 each ... and they last almost forever, and can be perk rags, hand towels, wash cloths and bathmats when bubs is out of nappies!

there are lots of things on the "must have" list of lots of places which you really, really don't need. There's a thread on here which asks what 3 things you bought and never needed - check it out

I recently went to spotlight and got 2to3metres of 4 different coloured material, cost me $50 and ive so far out of that ive made a quilt, 3 sheets, a toy, a pennant banner and i still have enough to make either a couple of change table covers or a large summer sheet. I think the cost of sheet sets is ridiculous.

Really agree with the flat nappies under the head. I got some soft flannelette ones and they were brilliant. Used them for spew rags as well. I used the flat sheets to wrap up m girls when they grew out of the muslin wraps I had but the weather was still to warm for blankets.
