Dumb question: What are tags for on toys?

Ok, as the title says: What are all those tags for on baby toys? I've seen them everywhere and still don't know what the tags are for LoL. Anyone want to enlighten me?

What they're made of. Where they're made. Washing instructions...
Or do you mean coloured tag ribbon stuff? Babies have a tag obsession, well mine does XD he loves chewing on tags... Mind you the tag toys are no match for the real tags he knows the difference!

Yeah, I meant the second (the coloured tags/ribbons). So they like to chew the tags! Aha, cool. I though you'd hang something on them... Haha, I'm obviously clueless!

once my mum cut a tag off one of DD1s toys and she was so sad she kept turning it round looking for it...mum promised to never do it again

From what I understand it is a sensory thing for them. Often the tags are silky material and not only do they like to chew on them they also like to rub them between their fingers, it is a comforting sensation for them.

DD is the same! She has a few taggy toys but still preferred to play with the real tag! Lol.
It's just a sensory thing for them, dunno why they are so obsessive though, DD went through a stage of playing with the tags more than she played with the toy!

Same but DD2 couldnt give 2 hoots to busy anoying DD1 1 DD1 loved them

Just a warning to be careful of tags, my cousin nearly lost a finger as a toddler because he wound the tag around and around his finger over night and the finger was in bad shape!
