How many sheet sets do I need and do I need bassinet sheet sets?
I've heard that a pillow case will fit easily over a bassinet mattress and they are much more cost effective then buying specific bassniet sheet sets.
Am planning on wrapping our little Martini for as long as she'll let me and sleeping her in the bassinet (next to our bed) for as long as she'll fit in the bassinet.
Then planning to move her into her own room, into her cot with sleeping bags as opposed to sheets and blanket.
So how many sheet sets should I get for each (bassinet and cot)?
What about mattress protectors - which one's are good?
And as Miss Martini is due in early March, will she need blankets for warmth as well as wraps? Which blankets - keep reading about 'celular blankets'.
I bought 2 sets of flannelette sheets and have about 3 or 4 sets of cotton sheets (haven't yet used any of the cotton sheets!). DD was wrapped for a month or so then I just tucked a sheet and a blanket over her. Now, because she is rolling around everywhere she is in a sleeping bag overnight and during the day doesn't have anything over her.
I got 2 mattress protectors, from Target, and have a few cellular blankets although I don't think I've used them yet, but once she is in a proper bed or there is no risk of her getting tangled up in sheets then I'll use them.
I would get at least 2 sets of sheets, maybe 3. I used to put a terry towelling nappy underneath her head so I didn't have to change the sheets every time she spat up a little, saved many a sheet change! The same for a bassinette.
Congrats on your bub and hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well!
I have two sets of cot sheet sets for each of the kids cots so when I take one set off to wash I can put the clean set on straight away. Also is handy for younger babies to have two sets in case they have a spew or something in the bed.
As far as blankets go, if you are going to put some on the bed I would suggest cotton rather than something like polyester. I guess it depends on how cool bubs room is and how thick the sleeping bag is to decide how many blankets you need. Right now in summer my twins are in air con so we have them in cotton PJ's (shirt and shorts), 2.5 tog sleeping bag and a couple of blankets, but their room is fairly cool, for us we have found this works best.
I managed with 2 sets for DD - but she wasn't a chucker and slept with me most of the time anyway. I rarely used a top shett due to wrapping her.
She had a cellular blanket made of cotton for summer and a 100%wool blanket for winter.
I had 2 sets of flannelette sheets but TBH they've never ever been used.
Hi, I would probably recommend a couple of sheet sets in the cupboard. It is always handy to have spares, unless you intend on washing 24/7!
Our DD's only fitted in the bassinet for the first 3 months anyway, so we never worried about buying bassinet sized sheets, we just made sure we tucked the cot ones in tight.
Go for good quality mattress protectors, some of the thinner ones slide all over the cot underneath the sheet. Or make sure the have elastic to hold them in place.
As far as blankets go, I always used the woven cotton blankets. Depending on how you heat your house though, wraps may be enough.
