Amy - furniture snob here as well. Cant help it.... We had a 7 year gaps between DS1 and DS2 and I'd given everything away soave done it twice! Like Lulu and Briggseys I reckon we easily spent 6k on the Boori Cot (loved it and after 3 years it's still an immaculate white (no teeth marks luckily), matching white Boori change table with an open gap shelf and then two drawers underneath, Peg Perego high chair (you don't need this at birth and could delay until 4 or 5 months but I appreciated buying it while we had two incomes), my much treasured Stokke pram (ok that may not quite have been Inc,uded in the 6k), two car seats - one top of the wazza from birth rear facing to toddler (my car) and a rear facingto toddler not quite as expensive for DH car - plus a peg per ego capsule from birth - cause I thought it would be good for first 6 months to put baby in and out of the car in a capsule (had ridiculous mental issues with hiring one - as it's turned out it will be good for the twins and its like new (not an essential purchase though), baby born sling (loved it), LOTS of linen (mostly online) - the glider breastfeeding chair was completely non essential - but let me tell you it was brilliant when I ws exhausted and feeding in the night.
Advent sterilizer, baby monitor, battery operated musical rocker (DS2 lived in it for the first 3 months) and the Moses basket (slept in this on a stand next to our bed for first 8 weeksbefore going into his Cot in his nursery).
I just asked DH what he reckons we spent including all furniture, linen, pram, stroller, car seats x2, high chair, clothing (pre birth), Moses basket etc and he rolled his eyes and said "is this a trick question" - he reckons about $8k!!!!!
He also says it won't be happening this around.....
