    Jolly Jumper

    Hi,
I am thinking about getting a jolly jumper for DS2. I never had one with DS1 and had the impression they were not good for children (hips? walking development?).
But DS2 seems to just want to be held up in the standing position constantly and he uses me basically as a jolly jumper!
Did you use one? Was it good? Or am i right in thinking they are somehow not good for babies.

    TIA
    Jo

as long as they're used for short times, and not all the time, they should be fine hun - i have E's jumper that came with hammock here if you want to try it out. means a trip out to scary hillbilly country, but if you can use it, you can borrow it rather than buying!

We used one for both DD1 and DD2 and they were great, kept them active and stopped my arms from hurting so much!

We eneded up buying a Fisher Price Jumperoo. (on special at Target for $150...well worth it IMO)
More for the reasons that they didn't take up as much room as a JJ if in the stand and I personally didn't like the idea ofa it hanging in a door frame.
DS loves his Jumperoo with all the fun toys he can play around it

I used a jolly jumper for DS2, he LOVED it!! DS3 has been having chiropractic treatment since he was a few weeks old for some neck problems so I asked the chiro about them. The gist is that they're not the best, they support the baby in the same way as as say a Baby Bjorn does (all in the pelvis) which isn't good for their developing spine, also they put strain on their legs, so he recommended that they're not so good for babies before they can weight bare on their legs themselves.
Shame as DS is like your little one wants to be held and jump all the time!

As long as they aren't in there for longer than about 30 mins at a time it's ok - but OMG did DS and DD have fun in them! I loved the JJ, it's a crackup to watch their little legs bouncing away.

    Re: Jolly Jumper

I'm a firm believer of to each his own. Personally? No chance in hell I'd put my babies in one.

My MIL is a paediatric physio, so she gets to deal with the ones that don't have the fantastic experiences mentioned in previous posts. Sure, it's highly unlike and very rare, but to me it's just not worth the risk. Same with the little chair walkers. She said those two are the biggest cause of child injuries that she has to treat (at least the biggest cause for children not suffering some other form of issue such as hip displasia or something arising from cerebral palsy and the likes)

And yes. Short periods only and constant adjustment to make sure it still is set up right for your growing baby. Too high or low can add undue strain.

the GPS CAN find scary hillbilly country - but it takes you through even scarier hillbilly country to get here! scary hillbilly country is REALLY easy to find - if you go the right way (ignore GPS) i'm only two turns off the freeway!
