New Born sizing... confused.. what size was your newborn?

My DS was a bit smaller than the ladies above. He was 6 pound 1ounce, ok 3.1kgs. He was born at term but was just nice and little.

He fitted into 00000 (5, 0's) for a couple of weeks and then 4x0's for about a month.

My advice... buy a few of everything... we did and what we didn't use, makes great presents when friends have kids.

If you're not going cloth nappies (we use disposables) then I would advise focusing on buying a pack of them every fortnight, also wipes and baby wash. These are the things that are more costly than the clothes and although they don't look as cute as little suits in bubby's room. You will thank yourself for doing it when the little one comes!

DD was 2.9kg and in 0000's for a good few weeks. She fit 00000 for a while but we didn't have many so just wore 0000's which were kind of swimming on her at first haha. She was full term, just a little bub!

It is hard to know what you will be needing!

DS was 3.99kg when he was born & he fit into 0000's & still does - when he was weighed last week he was 5.1kg. i don't think he has long left in them though!!

as others have said, bonds are smaller than others - he's wearing their 000 singlets and never fit in the two 0000 wondersuits i bought.

The other girls have given great advice so I won't add to that, but what I did for my first bub (cos I was too scared to buy anything) was put money into a separate savings account every pay, that way when I wanted to start buying the money was there and it wasn't a huge cost burden.
Keep in mind too that if it's your first bub, people will buy heaps of stuff for you.

My DD was 3.240kg (7lb 2oz I think) and she fitted into 0000 for about a month. We just got about 4-5 0000 cheap outfits and the rest was given to us as presents. My advice, don't buy too many as you will more than likely get lots of gifts. You can always send someone out to buy more stuff if you need it!

Another thing to remember too is that your bubs will be born in the autumn, so the weather will be cooler by then at night, so if the 000 are a bit big, you just pop a pair of socks on over the top to keep the feet of the suit on their feet, and roll their sleeves up if it's a little long because if cost is a factor to you, then you don't want to have a heap of clothes that they grow out of in no time at all and then have to get bigger ones. And yep, people will buy you a lot of clothes as gifts, but it is usually always little outfits that aren't always practicle for everyday wear around home and in my experience they tend to buy 00 so bubs gets wear out of it for longer. Baby clothes will vary loads from brand to brand too - Bonds is quite small sizing, whereas Pumpkin Patch can be bigger. The target, and BigW brands are about the same for sizing. Personally I never brought anything smaller than 000 and I never needed to - my smallest bub was 3.85kg and only 52cm, but bonds 000 suits fitted her really well, the feet didn't hang down or anything but the target suits did, so I put socks on the feet. My biggest baby was in 000 onesies for only a week before he outgrew them.

Kim has some great advice too about putting a little money away each week because you will have all the big ticket items to buy too like a bassinette/cot, car seat, pram, change table etc (although not a necessity) and linen if you don't have anyone to get hand-me-downs from and when you start shopping around for that stuff it can be a bit daunting to see the price tags.

DD was born 3.5 kg (7pd12oz) and she was in 00000's for a few weeeks, 0000's for what seemed like ages.. (prob till about 2-3 months) and then 000's for the longest. She is 9.5 months now and mainly in 00 with a couple 0's and weighs 9.5 kgs.

My DD was 2.9kg also and full term! She was in 00000's for about 2 weeks and then 0000 for a couple of months, she was short but with long arms so we had to go up a size for the arm length to 000 but still in 0000 pants for quiet a while.

DS was 10.5lb (4.9kg???) and he went straight into 000...

One thing to remember too if you are going with sposies is don't stock up ...I bought 2 boxes of newborn nappies which are up to 5kgs and had a 5kg baby so they were pretty useless (and of course being an organised first time mum I had unpacked them all and put them in a nappy stacker so couldn't return them)

I bought a few 0000 suits for the girls. DD1 was 3.2kgs & fit them for the first 6 - 8 weeks. She was really skinny! DD2 was 3.8kgs & fit them for 2 weeks.
I just bought 000's for DS. He was just lighter than DD2.

I'd get a few 0000 things, but not many. Maybe just some bonds suits, & get everything else 000's.

My baby girl was 9lb 14oz and was in 0000 for two weeks, the only issue was her feet were too big really. I hate the oversized baggy look on my babies so I was happy to have 4-5 0000 suits just to cover those first few weeks. One thing to remember is that Bonds sizing is generally a size smaller, so if you're buying wondersuits a 000 is closer to any other branded 0000

Another thing to remember is the length of the baby. My DS hated 0000 suits as they were crampy in his legs, so even though he was 3.3 kgs I used the 000 suits for his comfort. And in Bonds the cozy cufs are good, as they have the fold over feet as well as hands so you can get a bit more wear out of them.

And Ditto on LaDeeDa and the nappies. I moved DS up to the bigger size sposie very quickly.

DD was 5pound 15 & was in 00000 bonds wondersuits for a couple of weeks, then into normal 00000 for another couple of weeks then 0000's for around 2 months.
You will find that different brands are different sizes as well. DD didnt wear quite a few things because they were labelled as one size & when she was at that size we got them out & they were too small. Others you will find are huge, DD still fits her 000 Sooki Baby jacket with room to spare (which Im happy about because its about the only item I paid full price for)

DS was 3.6kg and was in 000 when born, he was long and skinny. This time round I am keeping mostly 000 with just one 0000 outfit JIC. If they are too big it doesn't matter, but if they are too small it does.
