Using bassinet/cot at the same time?

Well inwas just wondering do you normally use one or the other for so many weeks? I'm trying to build up an argument so when we get the cot I can put it up

I used the bassinet in the cot! Its one that goes into the pram though, that way the kids were used to the cot when they came out of the bassinet. And it was easy to have their musical mobile going to help them settle as there was no way to attach it to the bassinet

With M I used the bassinet at night until she was 6 months old but I used her cot for her day sleeps to get her used to the space, she wasn't much of a co-sleeper.

With A we kept her in a bassinet for about 5 months and then she moved to the cot (pushed up to our bed with only 3 sides on) once M had moved into a toddler bed, A spends more time in our actual bed than her cot though even though shes at arms reach.

I plan on using both, the bassinet is in our room for when she isnt sleeping with me in the bed during the night. I will use the cot during the day, my DP is a night worker so I dont want to be going in and out of the room moving the bassinet and since I have an active toddler she will need to go into her room for her day sleeps so might as well use the cot

that and I never had the chance with DS coming so early to actually set up a nursery, its been fun this time around.

On a side note, best to set the cot up now, we didnt have one ready to go with DS when I happened to walk into our room just in time to catch the bassinet from falling over, DS had outgrown it apparently. but my DP and I were both totally sleep deprived, DS wouldnt sleep in our bed (nor at all the previous night), and we needed a mattress for the cot. Once we finally got back from the shops, we realised it was too big, had to go back and change it aaaarrggh. It is a bad bad morning burnt into my memory. We swore from then on, everything would be ready inadvance.

Our kids have always been in their bassinette until they outgrew it and then just moved into their cot with no problems.
Anyway, it's fun setting up the baby's room even if you don't use the cot for a few months. In late pregnancy I would often just sit in the baby's room and look at everything and remake the cot lol. Ahhh the memories <3

DD was in the bassinette next to our bed til around 3 months, then we planned to move to the cot. She hated it, so spent around a week sleeping in the bassinette in the cot to make the transition smoother. Seemed to work, but as I had the cot mattress on the lower level to accomodate the bassinette, we left it at the lower level to avoid another transition down the track lol

Having the cot set up in her room was really handy as a safe space to put her after nappy changes etc when washing hands, binning nappies, plus it does help with being familiar with the cot too I guess?

I put DS in the bassinet in our bedroom at night and he had his day sleeps in the cot in his room. When he outgrew the bassinet he was so used to the cot and his own room that we had no problems with the transition to him being in there fulltime. I plan to do the same thing with this next bub.

Awww, you need your cot put together. DS didn't sleep in his until 4-5 months but from day 1 we would use the cot for a variety of things. It was a good height for putting him down to wrap him for his sleeps. Plus his mobile wasn't able to attach to the bassinet so I attached it to the cot facing outwards and push the bassinet in close under the mobile. Oh we also sat the baby monitor in it during those first months too... Plus his furry friends. And when my Mum would take a big load of washing (or 3 or 3) when she bought it back I would often pile it all in the cot until I had a chance to put it away. Hopefully that has given you some more reasons to have it assembled sooner rather than later. Enjoy your precious one :-)
