what is the best pram for small cars?

We had our first visit to Baby Kingdom on Saturday and picked a fabulous pram. It was the Prego Skate Pram. It has a baby seat that can be put onto the pram's frame without the carrier part there. There is an adapter thingo that it locks into. So if bubs is asleep in the car seat and you don't want to wake it you can just remove the car seat and pop it onto the prams frame. Sounded good when the lady was explaining it. Problem is I only have a small hatch back. Not much of a boot. I don't know if the pram once folded up will fit in the boot let alone anything else like groceries etc.
There are so many prams on the market and first timers like us are a bit lost. Any ideas?

You won't know until you try it. Ask the shop assistant to come with you to your car and try it in your boot - Baby Kingdom were happy to do it with us so you shouldn't have an issue.

We have a tiny car, a Mini Cooper, and we manage to fit a Quinny Buzz in there. We did have to put the bassinet on the back seat when we were using that but it was only for 12 weeks so we just lived with it. We have the capsule that fits on the Buzz frame and its so convenient, especially for times when we don't have room for the pram seat in the boot. We just take the chassis and snap the capsule on and go.

ETA: I've just remembered you have to allow for your car seats tether strap so where the points are on your car will make a difference to how much boot space you have. We don't use an Aus tethered seat so its not an issue for us (there isn't one that fits in the Mini so we have a European ISOFIX seat which our insurance has approved).

My SIL bought the Phil and Ted's pram as it fits in her Holden Astra really well, the wheels come off which makes it smaller!

It also is a fantastic double pram! I have the same one but I have a wagon so it wasn't a consideration!

    Cheers,

I had a Barina and most prams wouldn't fit in the boot. We ended up getting a Mothers Choice shopping stroller (I think that's what it's called). It has simple one action opening and closure and is easy to use in busy places like shopping centres as it's only about as wide as myself. It was also very cheap so it turned out very well for us. It has a generous shopping basket underneath and drink holders for bubs and for mum and dad.

We got rid of the Barina a week after I got home from hospital as once the pram and nappy bag went in the boot there was no room for shopping (or for all the presents we got everywhere we went). We had to put it in the back of the car which is dangerous and made it very overcrowded when my 5 yo step daughter came to stay. Ours was a 2 door so it was a little tricky leaning through to clip bubs in. We ended up with a family sized car and life is sooooooo much easier and we have loads of room in the boot with such a compact pram.

Try the Baby Jogger range especially the city mini versions... I am 99.9% sure that'll fit...

Good luck with the skate... you might get the chasis in the boot and the seat in the back of your car... it's pretty big though

    HI PUPS!
This is the one I just looked at today and have thought might be what we get. We were willing to spend alot more, but now that its been recomended to me to get a sling/carrier, I think the functions of this stroller and its cheap price will be great. We`ll probably carry bubs a bit more, so what I was looking for before is probably not nessacary. As satya has said, its lightweight, folds up easy and compact, good deep basket etc.
One question for Satya about it though - how do u find the brakes? The display one in the shop impressed me except I was unsure how good and secure those brakes were...I thought perhaps it was just the display one...??

Maclarens also have a nice bright red one for same price at the moment at Big W I think?
I dont know if theres one of those nearby me...?

I have seen the skate in a mailer - it does look lovely and we were considering something similar - Ive no idea about it being the size etc you want.

Salsa - the brakes are secure as. We haven't had any issues with them at all.

Ladies, you are probably looking for a car seat that will fit compact cars as well. The one we got is available again in Big W right now. Yep, that's another issue with small cars - not all capsules will fit either. The Zuzu one we got is in Big W for around $120. We were lucky and got it for even less when it was on sale a while ago. It is perfectly safe - meets all the Australian Standards. It's made by IGC who make most of the better known (and more expensive) car seats with different branding. My FIL used to work for them and he says it just doesn't have all the bells & whistles that end up costing you heaps. We just added a cushion thing (also form Big W) so his head wouldn't lol about whilst he was newborn & it cost around $20. It was the only 100% Australian made capsule available on the market at the time we bought it & that's got to be a good thing.

Sorry no advice from me , im in the same boat we have allready bought a 3 wheel pram which i really loved only to find i cant fit it in the boot of my huyndai excel(which actually has a pretty large boot , the prams huge ). So we shall use that in hubbys work truck and get another one for my car . i think going to a store were they can come out with you to try it in the boot as someone mentioned above is a great idea.
