    Pregnancy signs???

    Hi there!

I am new to this forum & would just like to say HELLO to everyone.

I have been reading the forums on this website for some months now and have learned so much from it! Thankyou to all!

My husband & I have been wanting to fall pregnant since our wedding in November 06, but had to put it off until mid year this year (which is now) as he has been on a hair loss treatment through Ashleigh & Martin and been taking a very low dosage of medication called "Proscar". The tablet is to lower your testosterone levels as people who bald apparently have too much testosterone & that's one of the reason's why your hair can fall out. So basically, he's regrown his own hair by doing this treatment.

Anyway, my darling husband decided to "surprise" me last Thursday night & not wear a condom. I thought he was going to pull out due to the fact that he still had 7 days of tablets left, but NO! I started freaking out as we have been told not to conceive whilst he is taking this medication as it could result in birth defects etc, but he said it's ok "I stopped taking them 3 days ago". Still... 3 days is not enough time to get the drug out of your system I dont think!?

So to cut a long story short.... I dont know when my period is due, I have really sore boobs, lots of wind/cramping, feeling nauseous at intermittent times throughout the day (which started yesterday) no signs of spotting (which I usually get leading up to a period), feeling quite emotional as well. I was going to do a home pregnancy test at the end of this week (if my period doesn't come in the mean time).

I don't know what to do other than wait! This is really scary!!! We would be over the moon if we are pregnant, only I'm worried about the "Proscar" not being out of my husbands system & what the result of that could be. All my husband can say is "Geez I'd feel ripped off if you fell pregnant after one go!"

I GUESS I WILL JUST HAVE TO WAIT.....

    Hi Jodie

When was your last AF? Are your cycles regular? If you only BD'd last Thursday night it will be a bit too early to tell via a pregnancy test but it will all depend on when you ovulated. You ovulate 14 days before your next AF is due (i.e. if you have a 30 day cycle, you should ovulate on day 16 of your cycle).

I would leave it another week or so before testing for a reliable result ........... but I wish you all the luck in the world. Your DH sounds lovely, by the way.

    Hi Tony & Kelly,

My husband is very cheeky isn't he! Only thinking about his own interests here!

I was not planning to officially start trying until after my next period (whenever that is due) and then serioulsy taking note of how long my cycle is etc. I wasn't going to chart my cycle to find out when I ovulate etc straight away.... I think taking your temperature every day waiting for the pefect time to make a baby could actually be really unromatic! We were just going to do the deed & see if anything eventuated from it.... and if months had gone by with no positive result, then look to do the charting thing. My cycle is fairly regular - I know my period usually arrives on a weekend - I just cant remember how many weeks ago my last one was!

My friend who is now 26 wks pregnant planned for a girl, did everything by the book, took her temperature every day and stressed out to the max over it all..... she says her baby making experience was terrible and to top it all off... it's a boy, not a girl. To top it off... the book that they went by (Dr Shettles) told them that she had to refrain from having an orgasm to conceive a girl.... so she really had a crappy time conceiving didn't she! Poor thing

Thanks for the info too Kelly! Much appreciated.

Jodie, you're right about it being a very unromantic thing. All the temp taking and jumping on DH when the time is right and the lying with your legs above your head etc etc etc. Very umromantic to say the least. If you're a patient person, I totally agree with everything you have said - go with the flow and see what happens. I temp'd and timed and checked and all the rest of it for 3 months then thought I should relax a bit and you guessed it, as soon as I stopped temping and imagining all the symptoms, I got my BFP.

I think you're on the right track.

Good luck on your TTC journey (if it isnt over already for you, wink wink).

    Hi Jodie

Well I got symptoms very early on and a positive HPT test with well over week to go before AF is even due. I got severe cramps 3 days after BD and gassiness and emotional and so on. Check my thread describes my symptoms a bit more What the hell does this mean? Could it be....

But everyone is different, I've had no implantation bleeding or sickness, just bloated and twinges in my stomach.

I wouldn't worry too much about your DH taking tablets, sometimes I think we worry too much. I remember a friend of mine getting really stressed out about having to wait for her scan and her grandmother said something really interesting "in my day, there was no scans and we did ok and the human race carried on regardless, what's meant to be is meant to be" (something like that )

She wasn't being mean, but I guess what she was trying to say was that maybe we've all become too obsessed and almost scared to trust our bodies will do things for our benefit so to speak.

If you are preggers, I can totally understand why you'd be worried, if I'm honest I would be too. I'm not helping much hmmmmm....

I don't know anything about what you DH is taking. I'm a police officer and I can tell you that a lot of hard core drugs leave your body within 3-7 days! I know I couldn't believe it either. Obviously this may not be the case with what you DH is taking but try not to worry honey (I know it's easy for me to say).

Let us know how you get on

    Hi,

I found some stuff on Proscar just online. This bit's from rxlist dot com, it talks about a study using rabbits.

No developmental abnormalities have been observed in first filial generation (F1) male or female offspring resulting from mating finasteride-treated male rats (80 mg/kg/day; 61 times the human exposure) with untreated females.
So there doesn't seem to be risk of congenital problems for bubs if you ARE pregnant, even if the drug WAS still in his system. I'll PM you the link so you can read the whole thing, but basically the only risk would be to male foetuses if YOU handled the crushed tablets once pregnant or took the tablets once pregnant.

ETA - - i can't PM you as you're not a Bellybelly member until you have 50 posts... If you want the link you can email the email address in my profile and i'll send it that way

It's sounding very likely that you could be pregnant, then again I've had similar symptoms and not been pregnant.

If you do happen to be pregnant pray for a girl as it seems that only the male offspring are affected by the birth defects and there's only a 3-5% chance of that anyway.

    Hello again!

I have stressed out all week wondering if I was pregnant & about the possiblity of birth defects etc if I was pregnant, had set today as my pregnancy home test day & woke up with my period!!!

I have to say, I am a quite relieved that I'm not pregnant this cycle (just because I feel it was too soon after DH finished taking the Proscar before we did the deed) and I would have panicked big time until I found out the sex of the baby - cause yes, I did some research myself on the net on Proscar & they say a baby boy would be more likely to have birth defects as apposed to a girl - as it has something to do with the testosterone levels etc.

Anyhoo! It will be in approximately 14 days from today that we will OFFICIALLY start trying to make a BABY!!!! No more Proscar in DH's system as he will have been off the med's for about 3.5 wks by the time we HOPEFULLY conceive!!!!!

Ooohh.... this is actually becoming very real now & I'm actually starting to get quite nervous! Am I really ready for this? How will I feel with a big pregnant belly for 9 months? How will I cope with giving birth (ouch!!!).

I have wanted this moment to come for such a long time (actually trying to conceive a baby!) and now that it's arrived, I have so much running through my head!

I will keep you all up to date & in a few weeks to come, I just might have some really exciting news to share with you all!!!!

P.S. I really appreciate all the help & the effort you went to to find out about the Proscar Bec & Ellana! Thanks heaps.

No worries - the internet is like a big info-playground for me

Sorry it was no BFP, but YAY you get to ttc without Proscar fretting this time.

Hopeing your BFP comes in oh, say, about 30 days from now?
