I go to a mothers group at the hospital where I had DS2. It’s lovely, it’s very diverse. There are usually a few midwives hanging around. Sometimes they direct the conversation by having a talking point or activity, sometimes there’s no direction and we all just talk amongst ourselves.

Anyway, when I went on Wednesday the talking point was “What have you found surprising about being a parent.” It was beautiful to hear what people had to say. I was already teary, listening to the others, but when it came to be my turn I knew I was going to cry. So I warned everyone that I was a bit emotional and that I was going to cry but that I was ok. Then I went on to say that of course you know everyone loves their kids, but when it happens to you and you have your own children and you just love them so much, I never knew how much I could love someone - that’s what I found surprising. So I was properly crying and taking at the same time but you could still understand what I was saying.

So, two things: 1. I was surprised at how many people came up to me afterwards and asked me if I was ok (and I truly was OK) and 2. I was surprised that people thought that I really might not be OK and that they only cry when they’re not OK. I’m just a crier, I’m really used to it, my whole family are criers, happy or sad, I cry all the time. I cry if I read the news, I cry when I read things on BB, I cry in ads! And then they looked at me like I was a bit strange. But I’m not *that* strange, surely. One of the MWs agreed that she’s a crier too and she cries in ads so she “got” me.

Since having Moo I cry much more easily. I cry at movies, books, ads, the news, stories on here...you name it! Or when I'm retelling something Moo said or did I'll cry The day he turned 2 I woke up crying and didn't stop for about 90mins!

i've always tried to control myself & DP has called me a heartless wench before because he'll cry in a movie & i won't but i don't necessarily think it's a good thing - i get lots of pent up emotion & am then likely to cry over next-to-nothing because i haven't dealt with emotions as they happen. geez - now i sound like i have a real emotional problem

i am more likely to cry over tv, book etc if i'm by myself.

my mum is a crier & i think i cry more now that i'm a mum.

I was never a cryer ( and I mean never). Now the tiniest things like you said get me going, and I find it a good release sometimes. All this started more after DD2 though, after DD1 I was not so bad. DH knows now that it is not a bad thing most of the time if he walks in and I have tears streaming down my face.

Oh thought of one that no one IRL understood recently. I sold our pram to get a new one, I cried cleaning it up, I cried when it went on Ebay, I had to leave the house when someone came to look at it, then when it finally sold I cried for a few days That's the pram that my newborn used so lots of memories! I think DH is too scared to bring it up but I'm okay now.

After I had dd1 I would cry over anything! Now I'm not so bad, because I'm more used to the hormonal changes associated with new parenting and breastfeeding etc.

My sister is a massive crier and will cry before any other discernible emotion! It can really unnerve people.

My best friend is a crier too! So I'm pretty used to it lol.

When I read your thread title I immediately wanted to give you one of these though

Me too! And Dr Seuss's "Oh the places you'll go!" I get to "Kid, you'll move mountains" and.... blubber. And Koala Lou. And Guess How Much I Love You. And Down in the woods at sleepytime....

Other random things that make me cry:
WorkCover ad where the kid is waiting for his dad to come home
Rainbows
Aliens or supernatural stuff.
Birth stories. Just about every single one.

I just have very active tear ducts, is all.

Massive crier here. Massive. Me, Mum and my sis - we all set each other off.

There was this song that we used to listen to in the car, on a TAPE (remember those old things?) and it was quite touching... about a woman who goes to visit an old friend, she reminisces about things they did together and how times have changed but how they will always be friends... it always used to make us cry... anyway I changed the words to it and sang it to my sister at her 21st... so we're already emotional, doing speeches and stuff, then the music starts and as soon as she heard the opening chords she burst into tears, followed promptly by my mum and me! Makes it a big tough to belt out a ballad with tears streaming down your face!

Some people thought we were freaks... But most people there were close enough to us to know that that's just how we are!

My sister cried during her labour with her first, I didn't, neither did mum, but then as soon as my niece was born and my sister held her, she stopped crying and mum and I started.

So yeah, we are criers! Big time!

At stupid things too... songs, Dr Phil, sometimes I just burst into tears playing with Charlotte, I am hopeless, but it is so much worse since having the girls.
It is nice though that so many people were concerned enough to make sure you were ok.

yep, I am worse since being pregnant but I cry when angry, at movies etc.... so if you are strange then I am in good company

I've always been emotional - I cry when I am sad, happy, overwhelmed etc... and it has become alot more prominent since I had my DD.

I use to be a lot worse than I am now but when I am at home alone or its just me and DD yeah I cannot help it, my guard goes down and I have a good blubber.

DD almost got me going at playgroup a month or so ago. For the first time she was interacting in the song and dance part along with her 5yo friend and she kept looking over at me beaming, it was just gorgeous.

Then yesterday she pulled open my PJ top and started pointing to my boobies and she was saying "boobies" then started rubbing my tummy saying "BABY" then kissed my tummy and kept rubbing it - seriously it was the most beautiful moment.
