Santa? Yes or No?

We do Santa because it's fun and non-religious, but we are explaining to ds that he's just for fun and is a character like Mickey mouse or Peso the penguin.

However, it looks like ds wants to believe Santa is real, and we're not sure how he came to that conclusion, I'm not putting any effort into perpetuating the myth and we talk openly about it all in front of him.

Oh well, the magic of Santa and all that jazz, and as long as we're not lying to him about any invisible mythical beings like flying spaghetti monsters etc, we're doing ok.

Why do people think that because I don't (didn't) want to do Santa it means he will get no presents, we won't visit family, there won't be a tree or decorations? Why do people assume that no Santa means no Christmas?

Probably for the same reason those who don't want to do Santa talk about the true meaning of Christmas, as if those who do the Santa thing don't believe a true meaning, or go to church, etc and so on. There have been some references to this in previous posts.

This is not directed at you just the point you made. I've read here the for and against and often it's stated that "no we don't, we want them to know the true meaing" or no "we go to Church I want it to be about Santa". We do Santa, but it's not about Santa.

We do all these things and have Santa to, has not affected what I know and believe and I wish this for me kids also.

And FWIW, it is what it is, we are a multi-everything society/country, we all believe or do what we want. It is no one persons business one way or another what we choose. Just as I don't care if you choose no Santa, another shouldn't presume I've not chosen the birth of Jesus as my belief or knowledge. I actually get annoyed how as Santa doesn't seem to fit with the entire meaning (as it's seen) of Christmas, that this meaning is often taken away from those who do, do the Santa thing.

And for those who do go with the Santa thing and do not follow or believe the "true meaning" behind Christmas to be what it is for me, well that's none of my business either. We each choose our path, often from what we've known to the path that was chosen for us. So many things have changed over the years, over the top or not with Christmas or Santa it's everyone's choice either way.
