Save Our Sleep - By Tizzie Hall

    Does anyone follow Tizzie's routines?

We got this book and started Dylan at around 7 weeks and my only complaint is we didn't find this book earlier!!

OMG what a differnce, Dylan use to be a nightmare to settle, and often would be crying from 5pm until around 10pm before we finally got him to sleep (by rocking him)

Now we put him in his cot awake at 7pm and most nights he is alseep by 7:10pm with no crying at all. It's unbelievable....Where he use to wake every 2-3 hours during the night, now he has a dream feed at 10:30pm and only wakes once during the night at around 4am and then goes right back down until I wake him at 7am and start our day..

    Hi Ninah,
As bellybelly has a gentle parenting focus, there is a general sentiment against routines and Save Our Sleep and Tizzie.

However, I followed the routines for my now 19mo daughter and it's been fab - she's an excellent sleeper and still sleeps 12hrs overnight and 11/2 to 2 1/2 hours during the day. I'm glad their working for you, let me know if you want to troubleshoot anything.

Hi Ninah - I just want to warn you, this book is quite contraversial and alot of people don't really agree with the principles in this book or like the methods used. I bought the book and read it and found it interesting but it was far too rigid for me to follow. I read lots of books including Pinky Mckay's. I took a little bit from each book and found my own way which thankfully has worked

The part I took from the SOS book was about the warmth of the room and dressing the baby - this advice was sooo valuable to me!!

I am so glad that you have found something that has worked so well for you. At 2 months to have this sort of routine is wonderful - congratulations

We personally love this book. It was handy for us when Palmer was younger but we haven't used a strict routine from it for a very long time.

Run a search for Tizzie Hall in the forums and you will find a few threads on it. One of which where she came onto the forums and threatened to sue us for questioning her training/education that she states she has, which is a bit vague. I have heard stories of lactation consultants and the ABA having to pick up the pieces after mothers have used her routines and mucked up breastfeeding. Babies don't have a watch, nor do calves - they feed when they are hungry and need it. Especially on a hot summer day - do you drink more or stay to the same 4 hour routine? Anyways, you will see enough when you read the threads.

    Hi Ninah,

Glad to hear you've found it has worked for you. I have had a few friends who have really loved it too.

I've read it, and a bit like stranglelk, just taken a few ideas from it.

I think there is a presumption that babies don't like/won't follow a routine. But personally I think that gentle parenting is about responding to your babies needs and following their cues. For us, personally, our DS would demand to be fed every 2.5 hours during the day (practically to the minute) until about 10 weeks and so of course he would be fed then. And so there was a very predictable routine to our days, but it was one led by him with a few hints from books. And he flourished happily on it, and to me, that is still gentle parenting.

    agreed!
for me the killer was pages 71-73. I would NEVER leave a TWO WEEK OLD BABY crying for 22 minutes. *eeek!*
I've used the 'no cry sleep solution'
and enjoy 10hrs sleep at night, with a feed after the first 7 (unless DD needs me more often in a growth spurt/teething)
