we also used the pedagree website (linked to pal dog food) and also breeders' pages to find out as much as possible about different breeds, then we visited different places to meet the puppies ...

if we were getting one now, I think we'd go to rspca or similar, though, because of stuff we've found out more recently about unethical breeders, etc

maybe PM mayaness (spelling? the one with "if I'm angry I'm the wrong mummy!" thing) ... as she seems to know a lot about breeders, etc.
