I agree 100% with L&B's intention re puppy farms etc. They're something that truly disgust me and I think its great you got your baby from a reputable breeder. We really need laws to stop petshop sales etc.

As for the 8 or 12 weeks for separation from their litter mates and mother though, this is something I looked into in a big way last year when we brought a puppy over to Perth from Victoria. His breeder said he would be ready to go at 8 weeks and TBH initially I was horrified - a tiny baby whose first trip away from his mum, brothers and sisters would be a long drive (they're rural Victoria), and then on a plane for a few hours. She assured me it was the best time but I did further digging. According to one school of thought (and it seems to be a popular school!) puppies go through "fear/terror" periods throughout the early months and around 12 weeks is one of those periods. So, our baby flew at 8 weeks and was well and truly settled in with his new family by that 12 week phase. He seemed happy and well adjusted right from the beginning, although if he keeps chewing up the reticulation my DH might be having some sterner words with him

Enjoy your new fluffball Shanti. I hope your retic stays safe ;-)
