Congrats.

You wont have an internal exam, in fact you might never have one throughout the entire pregnancy until you go into labour (that was my experience).

Go to a doctor after you have passed the date your period would have been due. You can go to any doctor. I went to a bulk billing clinic so it cost nothing to see the doc and nothing for the blood test. Not all doctors will do a blood test, they will just do another stick type test. The bulk billing place I go to charges $10 for the stick type test but not for the BT, go figure.

Before you go you need to think about what hospital you want to go to. If you are going public your decision should be pretty easy as it will be your local one. The OB that you will get referred on to has to work from the hospital of your choice so you will need to tell the GP which hospital you want to go to then they can check their list to refer you to the correct doctor. I didn't know this when I went for my appointment and got referred to a doctor who delivered at a different hospital so I had to go back and get a second referral and therefore wasted a visit to an OB. The OB you see will book you into hospital, but as I was going public I booked in myself by just making a phone call to the hospital.

The GP probably wont give you a referral until your BT results come back positive but will refer you on straight away if they do the stick test.

It's all very confusing in the early part of the pregnancy. Just remember that there's lots of ladies here who've already been through it and we are more than happy to share our knowledge with you.
