    Blighted Ovum?

I am getting quite worried about my second scan tomorrow.

I had my first scan at 6w0d and a sac and yolk could be seen, but no fetal pole. The ultrasound tech said I was still very early and to come back in a week to 10 days.

We have left it a bit longer and will be going tomorrow at 7w6d.

After my first ultrasound I had my HCG done for some reassurance and it was 15,000 at 6w1d and 35,000 at 6w4d.

I have had terrible morning sickness and every other pregnancy symptom under the sun.

I was silly enough to jump on google and now I'm concerned that there won't be a fetal pole tomorrow - a blighted ovum.

I would love to hear others experiences.

Mods please move this if it's in the wrong place.

Oh Aimz - You know ya gotta stay away from Google.

It sounds like everything is moving along nicely. Your HCG is increasing, they did see a sac and they are right it was a little early. So this time when you go for your scan you should see a nice, strong heartbeat. I can't wait to hear all about it!!

I know it's a stressful time - early pregnancy was out of the world stressful for me. Everyone says to relax and enjoy it but it's hard some days because you are so attached already to that little being, inside you. I'm sending positive, sticky vibes your way but I think you are going to be fine.

Oh no, there are few things worse than the stress of waiting to see a heartbeat. I understand this was a natural conception for you (wahoo) so even being wrong by a single day at 6w0d can mean there is no fetal pole. I hope you see a beautiful flicker tomorrow but I genuinely understand your stress .

My symptoms disappeared with my missed miscarriage, so I find morning sickness really reassuring. Ultrasound isn't exact and bubs is barely a few mm long. There's a +- 5 day discrepancy with early ultrasound. Chances are you'll see a blob with a heartbeat next time Early pregnancy is terrifying, deep breaths and all the good luck in the world for tomorrow.

Aimz, try and stop stressing about things that may or may not happen. I've had a blighted ovum and I've also had a scan at 6w0d with no heartbeat.

The scan at 6w was for this pregnancy. It sounds exactly like your scan - fetal pole and sac and not much else. Which the sonographer said was consistent with 6w, or just before.

I was told to wait til 8w and then have another scan.

The blighted ovum I didn't have a scan til the miscarriage was confirmed at 10w6d so I have no idea what an early scan would have looked for a blighted ovum.

Just try and be patient. I have been where you are - I know how hard it is. But try.

I have also had a blighted ovum, which wasn't picked up until 13 weeks, when I started heavily bleeding and big chunks of hard blood came out of me

But I have also had super early scans with following pregnancies, and have had the same thing happen, couldn't see a fetal pole, but there was a sac. So I'm sure its all good, as your HCG is increasing and you have strong symptoms, so don't stress, good luck for tomorrow

I had my first scan done at 5w 6d. Couldn't see a fetal pole at all, just the sack. She managed to just pick up the heartbeat but almost missed it entirely. As you can see from my sig, that sack is now almost 36 weeks along and cooking beautifully. Try not to worry too much, your first scan was very early. Hope all goes well tomorrow

I agree with the previous posts it sounds as though everything is normal and it was just too early. Whilst mine did end in a mc I had a scan at 6+4 which only showed the ges sac and yolk sac and there was a lot of talk about blighted ovums ( the embryo didnt appear until 8+3) BUT my HCG peaked at 9500 and was only going up by very small amounts (around 200) every 4 days, I was bleeding and I had lost all pg symptoms other than my breasts so don't give up hope just yet as your hcg levels and symptoms are a very good sign that all is normal

With my blighted ovum, there was no yolk sac or fetal pole to be seen. I miscarried at 8w3d.

With DD3, they could see a sac and a yolk sac but no fetal pole at 6w5d. I was told to come back in 2 weeks to have a follow up or just see how it goes. I opted for "see how it goes." At the NT scan I could plainly see a perfect little bubba in there.

Wishing you all the best. I am sure everything will be perfect
