    Can abdominal pain be normal?

    Hi

Im 8 weeks along with my first. I found at at 4 or so weeks I was carrying a bundle, and since then I have had abdominal cramping quite regularly. Sort of like period pain but generally across the lower part of my tummy. I wouldnt say it's 'all day every day' but it is certainly practically sometime during each day. I usually sleep on my belly with leg brough up close to my belly but I have found it is getting uncomfy to lie this way.
I have had absolutely no spotting, bleeding etc of any kind at all. I wear hard yakkas (which have no stretch) and have had to pop the top button and just use the zip to keep them up. I wouldnt say I look bigger, I just think my tummy feels firmer or more full if that makes sense. Im not doing any heavy lifting etc to cause any of this discomfort either.

Is pain in your abdomen, no bleeding 'normal'? I have been reading about ectopic pregnancies and thought before I rush off to the doctors I would just suss out if any of you have had similar symptoms

    Cheers

    It can be.
I had sharp, stabbing abdominal at 6-8 weeks with DS, and similar pains again this time. It can also be stretching type pain.
If you are worried check with your doctor or midwife but its can be normal muscle stretching.

    Hi bangs

I had cramps on and off for the first few weeks as well. I spoke to my midwife and she reassured me if there was no spotting or bleeding it was probably ok. She did offer for me to come in and get checked out if I was really worried.

What I did find is that if I over did it anything, like being too active, stretching, getting too tired my body would tell me with cramping. So when I feel the cramps now I take it as a hint to sit down, have a cup of tea and rest for a little while.

BUT if you are worried, speak to the dr and let them check you out if you are worried.

Hope you continue to have a happy and healthy pregnancy!

    Hey bangs,

    Congratulations firstly!!

I have been getting some pains. But they are more uncomfortable than actually painful, I spoke to the dr about it last week and he assured me that it is normal. But if they are worrying you go in and get it checked. Also could you request a dating scan (you can get them from 7 weeks) just to put your mind at ease that everything is ok!

Also and this is a bit gross but hey it might help! Have you been going to the toilet??? I was getting shocking excrciating pains, and it was because i was so constipated! Which is apparently normaly first trimester & combined witht he iron in my preg vitamins! YUCK! I took some metamucil fibre capsules and the pains were releived when i was! Could it be something like that???

good luck hun, hope that your feeling better soon!

Yup, can be completely normal. I had period-like pain every day for the first 8 - 10 weeks. They were intermittent, like yours, but quite uncomfortable. At one stage it got so bad it really freaked me out and I rushed off to the doc (in tears, sure I was losing bubs) and they sent me for an ultrasound. And there was my little 6-week-old blob bobbing away in there with a nice, strong heart-beat!

Both sonographer and doc said it is normal to get pains from uterus and surrounding ligaments stretching. This is usually only concerning if it is a) accompanied by bleeding, or b) getting significantly stronger and more regular. This generally put my mind at ease but they said it was fine to come in for a check if I was worried - it's better to be sure, rather than freaking out, not sure how to judge what you're experiencing.

Congrats on your pregnancy hun, hope it's a wonderful, healthy and joyous one.

    Congrats on your news,
Does the pain feel like dull period type cramps or feel like you need to do number twos?
This is what I felt in those early days when my uterus was stretching to accomodate bubs.I still do from time to time.
If youre really concerned see your doctor, He/she will put your mind at ease. But it sound pretty normal to me but Im no doctor.
