Hi. I had Hyperemesis Gravidarum when I was pregnant with my girls. Lost heaps of weight & was vomotting around 17 - 18 times a day for 4 - 5 months.
I was admitted to hospital a few times & was given Maxalon, but I had a bad reaction to it, so couldn't keep taking it.
I've heard of Zofran, I think its used for anti nausea in Cancer patients (if I remember right) but my gp didn't feel comfortable trying it as it wasn't known then if it was safe in pregnancy. Things may've changed by now though.
Go see your gp. I really hope it doesn't last too long for you.

^My sister was given a drug used for nausea associated with Chemotherapy (could have been Zofran but can't remember) when she was in hospital. THey told her it was ok ot use during pregnancy but because it was very expensive they could only give her the 1 dose.

hi fionaw, I used the zofran during my pregnancy last year, they gave me the initial dose in hospital after being put on a drip for rehydration.
I was told its safe to use and yep its the one they give to cancer patients.
It was fantastic, I could not have functoned without it and I had ms up until about 22-24 wks I feel your pain!
it is very expensive, but if you can get a script for the higher dose in a larger pack ( I think its the 10mg in a box of 8, ) I used this and just took half a tablet (well wafer, they dissolve on your tongue!) when I really needed it.
I think you will pay anywhere between 40-$75.
i hope you will be feeling better soon.
oh yeah, and I second the hydralyte, fantastic stuff!

I'm still vomiting at least once a day at 14 weeks - Maxolon did nothing for me and Zofran worked for an hour or two after taking it... I also had the generic which only cost me $5 for 4 10mg tabs.
I manage to keep down the little folic acid tablets but couldn't take the multi so I used to have the kids chewable vitamins - they went down better. They've got some folate in them - might be better than nothing...
Hang in there... this is worth it in the end (it's what I cling to)

    Oh fiona I can sympathise.
    I tried maxalon... nothing.
    Zofran via tabs - nothing.
Zofran through a drip - nothing.
I'm still a little sick now at 36+weeks. I was similar last pregnancy.
At last After 28 weeks I was able to keep a meal down per day.

I hope that it stops for you soon. It's a horrible thing to go through.

Update - went to my GP. I got a shot of maxalon and am feeling pretty ok. I also got some tablets.

    Seems ok so far.

I really hope this is good for me.

    Thanks for all the advice.
