    A Spa??

Hi all - I am just wondering if anyone knows.... is it safe to be in a spa whilst i am in the very early stages of pregnancy??
It is just DH and I booked a few days away for October - thinking it will be o time iykwim- but lucky us got preggers this month.... and there isn't a great deal to do at this place, except the private spa on the balcony and DTD, read etc etc. I am now unsure if we should cancel and go somewhere else. I was really looking forward to the spa but I don't know now... can anyone help??

I was told you shouldn't use the spa jets in pregnancy because of bacteria. Not sure if thats true or not though. And also shouldnt have it hot.

You have to be careful with overheating whilst pregnant and spas are notorious for doing that so I wouldn't risk it.

Hi Alicia, I just did a quick google search on it and this is what it came up with:
It is not a good idea to soak in a hot tub unless you can control the temperature and set it at no more than 100 degrees (Fahreinheit). Soaking in hot water or sitting in a hot, steamy room can make you overheat, which raises your heart rate and reduces blood flow to your uterus. This can put your baby under stress or interfere with normal development. And because pregnant women have a hard time cooling down, you're more likely to pass out if you get overheated in a hot tub or sauna.

So I would say go for it if you can set the temperature at a safe level, otherwise, best to leave it.

    Have fun!!

I've also heard not to go in if the bubbles/jets are on, as it can force water into dark places and rupture things! Eep!

I'm also going away to a hotel on the weekend, and am annoyed, but will be avoiding the spa and sauna... better safe than sorry I guess.
I am getting a facial though. hooray!

I've always stayed away from spas and saunas when preggie as the overheating thing is a real issue and I'd rather not take that risk. Better to be safe than to worry I think.

I think I have decided not to go.... there isn't too much else to do and we are now talking about an overnight shopping trip to Sydney.... unsure but I think too that it would be best to be safe rather than sorry... I don't think I could forgive myself if something went wrong - even if it wasn't the spa - but if I didn't take all precautions necessary. Why risk it is my thinking now.
THanks for all your imput ladies - muchly appreciated.
