    Disprin to prevent miscarriage??

    Hi everyone,

I have not long found out we are expecting bub #2. My little man is nearly two and was a fairly normal pregnancy.. Apart from a bit of spotting in first trimester and borderline Gestational diabetes no real probs. Since his birth, after months of feeling unwell and a ridiculous amount of blood tests i have been diagnosed with Lupus (Auto immune disease) as well as Insulin resistance.
My concern now is the auto immune disease gives me a higher chance of miscarriage. My GP has recommended i take 1/4 disprin a day for 2 months to prevent my blood from clotting (Which can stop oxygen flow to baby)..
I just wondered if anyone has heard of taking disprin before to try and prevent miscarriage??
Any one else with lupus or similar??
    Any comments would be great!!

Sounds like a reasonably similar situation to me. I have a rheumatoid arthritis (auto immune) condition, plus PCOS (severe insulin resistance) and a possible problem with lupus anticoagulants.

I was on metformin for the PCOS, and I stayed on that until 12 weeks when we started reducing the dosage. I'm on prednisone for the arthritis, which also helps prevent my body rejecting the baby, and finally I take aspirin for the clotting problem. However, I take cartia (low dose, enteric coated, specifically designed for treating clotting problems) rather than quartering a regular aspirin tablet.

You may want to consider consulting with a specialist to see how things can be better managed. It sounds like your GP is pretty switched on, though.

Hi flossy, a friend of mine tested positive for Lupus anticoagulant, is that the same? She was also advised to take aspirin (dispirin is just aspirin which dissolves). I think it was one tablet a day, but can't confirm that. Good luck with it.

    Hey flossy,

I am taking Cardiprin everyday (which is a low dose asprin) and this stops tiny clots which keeps the blood flow going from bub to you. this is what my fertility specialist tells me, and I pretty much have to take it until about week 34 or 36 depending on what OB says.
I hope you have a H&H pregnancy. Good luck with everything.

I too take cardiprin but will be stopping under Dr's orders at 34weeks, so just a couple of weeks to go for me. Had taken low dose aspirin (cardiprin) with my youngest two DD's as well. Have a talk to the pharmacist with what your DR wants you to take. I am sure they will point you in the right dorection. Or get your OB to give you the name of what he wants you to take, especially considering he will be your primary care provider during your pgcy. Have to say tho, the hospital was tossing up whether to put me on clexane injections this time round, yet thankfully the aspirin has worked well.

Thanks everyone, Its good to hear other people in similar situation.. We are 6 weeks now and all is well. Have started on the disprin just a 1/4 a day... I have had a heap of blood taken to see what the lupus is up too so we can manage it really well.. I have decided to just think positive and hopefully all will be well... Thanks again
