eating the "wrong food" & MC

    Hi ladies,

this is the first message about my pg. Last time I was so excited that I was on the site every day, but then we lost our baby between 7 & 8 weeks and I was a wreck.
I didn't have any sypmthoms that something was going wrong, so the shock was huge.

Anyway... I fell pg during the Xmas-NY period (I'm 9 weeks now) and I am quite scared... I have been eating the wrong food (brie, ham, feta...) during the holiday season (and before finding out I was pg) and up to yesterday I thought some of them were allowed (with my DD pg I had ham and other deli products and she is a healthy toddler now).

I feel a bit confused because doesn't matter how much you research you find different opinions... I know the obvious ones to leave out of my diet, but since my first pg (DD) the list of food to avoid got longer and longer.

I read that it could take up to 6 weeks before you realise that you contracted one of the scary infection that lead to MC.

I had an US 2 weeks ago and the baby's hb was fine (with the last pg it was way too low, which they told us was a sign that the baby was dying) but now I feel nervous again... should I go for another US just to feel better?

I have the first OB visit in a week... should I wait for it?

sorry for being so "silly", but the MC was a huge shock for me and I am scared that it could happen again...

Having a m/c really does make you nervous the next time around. There are foods that you are recommended to avoid, but this is only to keep the risk of contracting listeria down. There is a chance that you can contract it (I'm sure it's pretty low), but it doesn't mean you will contract it. It sounds to me like everything is going really well with your bub, try and focus on that, I'm sure everything will be fine . We've all eaten things while pregnant without knowing we "shouldn't", I know I have and I've had two very healthy boys.

Titti, I know exactly how you are feeling.
I too am worried about something I have eaten today and I am really early in the first trimester. I have just been advised not to stress over it as this is not helpful either.
Like Trish says, we have all eaten foods we shouldn't have without knowing. We know now and that is the main thing.
A lot of mothers go on to have H&H pregnancies so I am sure we can too
Try to relax and I am sure your little sweetheart is fine.
    Take care.

Thanks Trish... I know I should be positive and I know I done (or ate) worse with my first pg and my DD is healthy and happy, I guess I am just touchy and scared...
thanks for your words, I do appreciate.

I jsut wanted to let you know that I felt the same way, before I knew that I was pregnant I had a massive weekend away with DP at a winery and had sampled quite alot of wines,, I had the flu and sinus so was taking codrals and nurofen and I was eating foods that i didnt know were bad, becasue I didnt know I was pregnant.

My doctor told me that the baby is very resilient in the first couple of months and that I shouldnt worry, plenty of people dont realise they are prengnant for a couple of months or even more and they have produced perfectly healthy babies.

It is good now that you aware of different foods to avoid, one thing that is also important is that you dont stress.

P.s. If it makes you feel better, I had no idea that you were suppose to avoid lettuce when pregnant, I have eaten it my whole pregnancy but have not had a problem, so like Trish said, they do say to avoid foods but it doesnt mean that the foods are dangerous, its just how they are prepared or kept.

I wish you a happy and healthy pregnancy.

    thanks babyjo,
we will be fine, won't we?!
Just need to be positive :-)
I think I will feel better after my ob appointment and in 3 to 4 weeks time, when I will be over the terrible 12 weeks...
    good luck!

From what I know lettuce itself isn't bad, it just has to be washed properly. I avoid it where I can when I am eating out, but at home you wash it yourself and make sure it's fresh.
