There is this thing called a blighted ovum or a missed miscarriage. Its where the cell ball implanted grows the placenta part of the,'baby' but not the actual baby. Because the placenta is growing your hcg continues to rise n you have pregnancy symptoms but the baby has failed to grow. By now on a scan u should be able to see a babe with a heartbeat. If there is no yolk sac visable n your dates are correct then this is usually a good indication that a blighted ovum has occurred.
Now im really hoping and praying your dates are out! The best course of action is to have repeat blood tests to see where your hcg is at and see if its dropping yet or rising still. Also have a repeat scan in 10 days because it might be dates are out, hard to see uterus etc.
I went thru all this last year when I found out at a 9 week scan. It is devestating. I found it to be a very cruel trick from nature to be pendant but not have a baby growing in there any more. My hcg had started dropping by that point but it still took three weeks before it dropped enough for me to miscarry naturally.
If u have any more questions please feel free to pm me or pop over to the miscarriage forum.
I do sincerely hope that u have a happy bub growing well n the sonographer just missed it xx
