    mouth ulcers

has anyone else suffered from these while preg??

I used to get them before i was preg, about once a month - every couple of months, would get 1 or 2 but after a week or so they would go.

now i have heaps =( including on my tounge and they are so painful, my throwing up obviously doesn't help them. and when i do manage to eat something its so painful to eat =(

my old remedy (that my nan taught be) was putting cold tea bags in your month, which soothe them. but i cant really stomach teabags atm....i've only just in the last week been able to have a cup of tea (and only one).

short of bonjela and sm33 and all that stuff, anyone else have any ideas??

Yep increase your vitamin C intake.

I had both ulcers and bleeding gums during this pregnancy. On top of the Pregnancy vitamins, I was taking 1000mg of Vitamin C suppliments a day and eating oranges and drinking OJ for breakfast.. and it was all getting used (IE I wasn't peeing it out, which is what you do when you have too much Vit C )

Mouth ulcers are a classic sign of low Vitamin C levels generally, but I guess being pregnant makes it worse, it certainly did for me. Only taking the above settled down the ulcers and reduced the majority of the bleeding.

If your ulcers are really bad, get the vitamin C tablets you can suck and put the tablets directly on them, it will sting like no tomorrow but after a few mins they will be numb and it will clear them up super quick. Repeat a few times till they go away.

    thanks lolpigs

that might explain why i'm craving juice...hmmm I've found that very cruel though, cause I crave it, drink it, and then suffer for it, so even though i want it i'm not drinking as much as I should cause it hurts.

    Thanks

No worries, if the juice is too much just try the tablets. They are far more concentrated anyway than OJ Oh yeah I had massive cravings for juice, just couldnt live without it

DON'T pop them with a pin. I do this all the time. Not pretty and very painful.
Sometimes they don't even pop. I just stab them alot.

Half a teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water, swish and spit at least 4 times a day or as often as you remember. You can do the same with bicarb but salt tastes better .

Second both the Vit B and warm salt water gargle.
The gargles one of the surest ways to fix mouth ulcers. The more you gargle, the quicker they'll heal.
If they are really painful, you can get a paste called Orabase from your pharmacist (pharmacist only so will have to ask at counter). You dab it on the spot and it forms a skin over the ulcer protecting it from acids, food etc and reducing pain remarkably.
Also, Medijel is a lot more effective at reducing pain than bonjela, sm33.
Drinking lots of water also helps as a dehydrated mouth can make you more prone to ulcers.
Biotene mouthwash is also good if you are getting lots of ms. It reduces bacteria in mouth as well as hydrate.

Vegimite does sting for a few seconds but is the best way to get get rid of them. If you use vegimite every few hours even on crackers for 2 days they will go away much quicker then anything over the counter. I get them when Im run down or when i drink pineapple juice & vegimite is the only thing i have found that works quickly.
