pain + little bit of blood - 6 weeks

I'm in the same boat as you, I'm 7 weeks along and last night when I wiped there was bright red blood and I had cramping pains off and on all night although no more blood. I bled throughout my previous pregnancy but that was brown old stuff.
My midwife has told me to ring in the morning and see if I can change my scan for tomorrow (I have one booked for thursday today is sunday).
I still have period like pains and spent all night crying, I am also concerned because my morning sickness has been less the last 3 days, it went from being really bad to quite mild and for not as long.

Hi Erin,
It could indeed be anything. Last pregnancy I had a small amount of cramping and bleeding at around 5 weeks and nothing came of it. Healthy pregnancy.
Hang in there until tomorrow. There's nothing you can do either way except try your very hardest not to do too much physical stuff. (I know there's no point telling you to try not to stress.)
Sometimes even when not pregnant I bleed a little bit after DTD, so it could be that too. I think it could happen if your cervix gets 'bumped'.
Hopefully this reassures you a bit and I wish you all the very best for your scan tomorrow and for the rest of your pregnancy.

my wife is about 6 weeks pregnant and had similar experiences. she has also had a miscarriage before and worries at the slightest sign of pain or blood.

we went to the melbourne royal women's emergency room to check everything was fine, and saw a really great doctor who gave us some great reassurance.
he said there was nothing anybody could do, 1 in 5 pregnancies ended in miscarriage (not a reassuring statistic in itself), but that you should really only be worried about great amounts of pain or blood.

he said to think of it not as bleeding from your vagina, but bleeding from, say, your hand. meaning, if you cut your finger and lost a bit of blood, you would not go to the hospital. if however you lost a lot of blood from your finger, you would get worried and go to the hospital.

sorry to be a bloke and unable to speak from first-hand experience, but i hope this advice my wife got helps you worry less. think of the AMOUNT of blood you're losing, not where it's coming from.
