Well I am very upset at the moment and would really love some advice. I have had 7 positive PG tests (they are feint) and am 17DPO. I went for a BT yesterday at 16DPO and the results have come back inconclusive????Dr. wants me to go for another test in 7 days. My question is this because I am only 2 weeks past O, according to the BT is that how many weeks I would be (2 weeks and 3 days) or do they add on the 2 weeks like the doctors do (making me 4weeks and 3 days) I don't understand why I would be getting +HPTs if I'm not PG. I can't stop crying, Has anyone else experienced this??
Sorry I cant help with your question but am here for support really hope you are definitely UTD. Are you having any pregnancy symptoms along with the feint BFP ?
Sending you hugs.
Hi there
Not sure why a blood test would be inconclusive. Are u doing ivf or on hormone therapy? that can show false positive in urine. I have also experienced what i thought was a positive urine tests but turned out not to be pregnant. Try a different brand to make sure. I found the brand i was using always showed a very light result (? manufacturer problem) i tested them using plain water and the result still showed. Any way i cross my fingers for you, hopefully the blood test was just stuffed up. Good luck and best wishes.
Mum rach - ((hugs)) I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it sounds like you might have had a chemical pregnancy (a very early miscarriage).
The HPTs will show positive if you have HCG in your urine. Your body doesn't produce HCG - the developing embryo does - so to get a positive test at all, you have to be pregnant. But if BT results are inconclusive, it might mean that although you have HCG in your urine, the HCG levels are not where they should be which could mean that the pregnancy is not developing as it should and you may miscarry. (There is information on the main 1st trimester discussion thread about HCG levels in early pregnancy). (((big hugs))) Chemical pregnancies are heartbreaking - my last cycle ended in one so I know how difficult it can be. You go from being super excited one minute to completely crushed the next. ((hugs)) I really hope I am wrong and you are UTD.
I really hope I am wrong and you get some good news. It could also mean that it is so early that they want to make sure your HCG levels are doubling as they should so just want a second BT to confirm that all is good. I hope so!!
Rach, there is a possibility they you are very early in the pregnancy so they can't say for sure. They've done a quantiative test which means rather than just a yes or no, it shows the levels of HcG in your system. So say for example they take a HcG count of 10 as a pregnancy, if your count is 9 then it would be inconclusive (I'm not sure if that sort of number is correct, but you get the idea though?). You may very well be pregnant with a count of 9, but they just aren't ready to acknowledge it if that makes sense. How many DPO do you think you are?
Thanks everyone- I am 17DPO. The Dr didn't do a quantative test, he did a qualiative one. The result came back as being below 25, but not an exact number, so he said that if it is under that they will not "commit" and say that I am PG. But it is not negative??? I now have to go and have a quantative one done in seven days. however I am experiencing some pain in my left ovary similar to O pain so I am going to a different doctor and get a quantative BT done. The other Dr wasn't helpful at all, and his last comment was for me to "put it into perspective" because I am "Only waiting for a positive PG test". Does anyone else think I am overeacting? I am so upset. I have done 8 HPTs ( 3 different brands over all) all came up positive. Not to mention I am on CD48 of a usual 38 day cycle. I didn't O till late though CD 30, and my luteal phase is between 14-16 days. My temps are also still up.
Anyway I will let you know after i find out more. Thanks
Rach I agree with Sarah about the levels it happened to me with Zac.All +hpt but Doc said no I wasn't. I went to another doc & got her to check the levels & she said yes I was preg, but it was only very early.
Looking at your chart, I'd say you are pregnant, congratulations -xx-!!!!!
Oh Rach that sounds VERY promising!!!! If they haven't done a quantitative test then they are really just guessing. I bet you'll go in for that quantitative test and find that your levels are WAAAAAY above 25 by now. Your temps are so lovely and high - your chart is looking like a textbook triphasic chart.
Good luck and let us know when you find out the results. - Oh and throw some nasty words out the window next time you drive by that first drs office. I hate it when drs dismiss concerns like that. Grrrr.
I used to work in a lab before I became a Mummy and a negative HCG BT is <5, results that are between 5 and 25 are usually reported as inconclusive or indeterminant, results >25 are considered positive. Most labs do not actually do the qualitative HCG tests anymore as they are done on an automated analyser and you get a number regardless of wether the Dr asks for a qual HCG or quant HCG meaning that all results are actually quantitative. As your bt result was what the Dr called inconclusive it actually means that your BT come up with a result less than 25 but more than 5 and that your not, not pregnant but the result isn't high enough to be called pregnant either. The presence of HCG in your blood means there is something going on so routinely these inconclusive results are sent to the Dr with a comment asking for a repeat BT in 7 days to check that the level is rising as it should be if you are pregnant.
I hope that's not too confusing.
I've got my fingers crossed that you get a nice large number and you can relax and enjoy the ride!
thank you all, I have started bleeding today, and very crampy, so I would think that would mean I have had a chemical PG. Thanks for all your well wishes, you are a lovely group of ladies. Hopefully I will come back again soon and chat.
Dr rang and my levels are 10. Nurse said that they should be between 5-50 for 3-4 weeks. So not looking good (as I knew) I have to go for another BT on Tuesday.
Thanks again for all the well wishes you have sent me
