    Question Cheesy Question

    Hey all,

I know that when you are pregnant you should not eat soft cheeses etc. But I want to know if is ok to eat them if they are cooked and served hot. The reason I am asking is in a few weeks DP and I are going out to one of our favourite resturant with some friends and normally DP and I share an entree of deep fried camembert then I have a chicken dish that is stuff with camembert....i gather you can tell I love my cheese. Also during easter its a tradtion in my family to go to mums and have home made ricotta filled ravioli for lunch, its a once a year thing and its absolutey delicious.....so is it ok to eat this stuff or should I steer clear from it?
    Thanks
    Claire

I believe that if things are cooked it is ok. I have cooked oysters and toasted deli meat sandwiches, not together though.
I do believe ricotta is ok, as is cottage cheese, but cold feta, brie and camerbert of off the list.

Cheese is an important source of protein and calcium for pregnant women but certain kinds do need to be avoided. Pregnant women are advised not to eat soft, mould-ripened cheeses, such as brie or camembert, and blue-veined cheeses, such as danish blue and stilton. This is because these cheeses are more inclined to allow growth of bacteria, such as listeria, which can harm your unborn child.

However, thorough cooking should kill any listeria, so it should be safe to eat food containing soft mould-ripened or blue-veined cheeses, provided the food has been properly cooked and is piping hot all the way through.

yes you can as long as it hot!
this is from a baby centre web page! hope it helps!!

I have also heard it is safe to eat cooked cheese ie. hot as any germs will have been killed.
