I have read that babies settle well wit a shirt of mum's or something with her scent on it so this makes sense. Like you do with puppies! When we got our last dog the breeder gave us a toy which she had with her mum so she would have the familiar scent to sleep with.

Its a lovely idea - they actually suggest people do this with cloth nappies for the bitty babies in NICU and SCN, they suggest mum wears a cloth nappy under her shirt for a day or so then to pop it in with bub for comfort.

Its a great way for bub to feel some sort of security when it is alone

On the flip side - I read somewhere for parents to do this with a shirt or blankey and get babies smell along with the parents smell for pet dogs and cats so they get an association with this new little bundle before it comes home

The hospital where I had DD had 'wookies'...so if the mum and bubba was separated (ie - prem or sick) then bubba had one wookie and mum had the other, then when you see each other next you swap...
I don't know whether the whole scent thing worked as we were swapping them daily - but for me (as silly as this will sound) i felt the wookie 'was' my baby, until I managed to get her home from hospital 6 wks after her birth...It made me feel closer to her, even when I wasn't there.

    Congrats on your engagement Leesa!
(Also congrats on your next arrival!)
That sounds like a beautiful idea that the hospital had.
Were they little soft toy star wars wookies??
    That would be amazingly cute!

    Hey girls,

This is such a beautiful idea but I'm wondering how I'd sell it to my macho army man husband who's in the Solomon's. I can just imagine the ribbing he'd get if they saw him snuggling up to a blankie every night . I'm gonna send him one just cause I can Hahahahahahahahaha. i love it!

Maybe I'll sleep with the toy and he can have the blankie, then when Peanut is born it can have both our scents on it
