    I'm going to go slightly against the grain here with my son I followed every rule possible in the dos and donts and after he passed away i questioned it for years I'd done everything they said so why at 25 weeks was my baby taken?
    Now I eat what I like except I would cook my red meat more if I could eat it this pregnancy.
    Salads I don't eat unless I can see them being prepared anyway and well I haven't stopped eating deli meats and both my girls turned out perfectly and these twins are going very strong
    a lot of the info is outdated like I've heard about the cheese thing PZ mentioned but again at the end of the day eat what you feel comfortable eating as long of you know it's cooked properly/fresh etc ..., that's just my opinion

    I just try to be concious of what I'm eating. I still eat deli meats as Australian Standards are very stringent on it being fresh. I would avoid any salads that look like they have been out "baking" for a while but if it is freshly made to order then I would eat them. As for the cheese thing I think it is purely a personal preference, if I felt like some I would have it but I'm not a big cheese eater anyway. And finally the fish thing is about mercury but you shoudl try and have some fish in your diet, if you had it everyday it might be a concern but once a week wouldn't hurt.

    My DD has turned out to be a pefect little toddler and by the way things are going with the twins they are growing and getting bigger and stronger everyday, so I don't think my bit of ham is doing them any harm..

    Its annoying hey?
    The main thing that people worry about is this little bacteria called listeria. Infections are rare, but its one of the few infections that can actually cross the placenta and cause harm to the baby.

    Basically it can grow on any food that has been left out for a while (meat, salad, etc). Cooking kills it so you can pretty much eat anything thats cooked and hot all the way through.

    But as people above have said, the risk is pretty low and whats most important is to eat healthily and have a stress-free pregnancy!

    I still ate most things, I just got into the habit of having toasted sandwiches to eat my ham and cooking my meat slightly before making my pizzas. I was just extra careful to clean, prepare and cook my food

    Australian made cheese are fine to eat as they've been pasteurised.

    It is annoying - I've googled and google, but the more I do, the more I get confused

    I understand the listeria and salmonella stuff, but its been a while since I've had to be concerned with what I eat (DD is almost 8) but I am sure I still ate deli meats and feta while pregnant (shes fine)

    I dont know if its my hormones, but I just feel so stupid when i comes to all of this stuff, and I want to do the right thing.

    Eh now Im laughing at myself crying because im rambling ...
