For All You Pregnant Momma's Out There

The other day I sat back and realized I hadn't bought a lot of stuff for this baby like I did with DD. By 28 weeks with DD1 I already had the best of the best of every nursery item and top of the line things I didn't even need. So much money went down the drain...

    Thanks to DD1 I learned....

1.)You only need the basics : diapers wipes, clothes, blankets, a place to sleep, food, car seat, and maybe a breast pump...
2.) Her favorite toy was a spoon
3.) After all the clothes I bought there were those 3 onesies I fell in love with and found she wore a majority of the time

With this baby I want to focus on loving it and not stressing out that she doesnt already have the best. When it comes down to it, babies love us and do not expect all that "Stuff"

I had too many bunny rugs to the point where DD uses them for her dolls now
Clothes with bulky hoods on them - so uncomfortable for a baby, b/c they lie down most of the time you want stuff like onesies
Plastic nappy bags (to throw out disposible nappies). I just used to walk straight outside to the bin. I still have a heap of them now that I don't use.

TM what a beautiful thread! As you know I am pregnant with my first. Hubby and I both have large families and I suspect we will be besieged with baby things from both sides so we are planning to lay low on the purchasing ourselves as aside from a cot, pram, some clothes for when she is born, a blanket, nappies, I am sure others will provide plenty.

Well we really have to start from scratch again as I didn't think I'd be having another bub until after I finished Uni at least.

But in saying that, I will also be sticking to bare essentials. I'm also going second-hand with a lot of the big stuff this time. For my first I wanted new everything but I guess near-new is just is good in the long run.

Couldn't agree more. I was so stressed with getting DD1's room ready before she arrived - she sleeps with us and her room is used for nappy changes and storage.

I have bought a couple of onesies just for this DD2 but as she is our second summer girl, there really isn't anything we need.

So true. Like Sara I'm starting again, and I have bought 'stuff' but only boring stuff I know I'll use. I'm not even buying a cot or bassinette as DS never slept in his so not going to bother with the struggle. Will just co-sleep.

Rhichichi our baby blankets got fed to the dolls too and I have seriously just finished with the nappy sack stash I got from DD's three babyshowers (two kids and 5.5years ago lol). I use cloth nappies but they substitute well for wetbags.

Couldn't have said it better myself! I don't think i'll need much other than a breast pump, nappies and possibly a few jumpsuits and things only if my next is a boy otherwise not much at all! The cot will be reused, the pram, sling, baby bath and toys will all be reused.

Number 4 here. And this bubba has WAY too much stuff!!! She got a whole lot of new stuff, and has inherited all the stuff from her siblings too. Have probably gone way overboard, and if they happened to get the gender wrong, this poor baby will be stuck with alot of pink clothing! But you know, this is my last baby. And it is fun to get caught up in the excitment again, like i did with the first.

Can someone tell my mum to stop buying baby clothes?? My MIL will be bringing stuff over when she flies over after the birth, and I've got so much clothes, I doubt I'm going to use all of them! AND OMG how many blankets do I need!!!! I know mum is really excited being the first grandchild and all, but I haven't even had the chance to pick out a little outfit myself, because she has bought so much! I know I should be thankful, but its really way too much now!

Can you maybe direct her towards other stuff that will be useful or even a range of sizes so bub can grow into them? It's easy to go nuts on the clothes because they're so cute, but you're right, half the time they barely get worn by the time bub grows out of them.

I'm trying to direct my MIL and family into things like joining together for bigger things like an ergo carrier, travel cot or such like. So far it seems to be working
